@JerricaBenton: have you read Tana French before? I really want to start her Dublin Murder Squad series, but have never read any of her stuff before. I'm looking forward to it!
@mrsjazz: Could you recommend one of her novels you liked better?

I have no time for books at the moment, but longreads.com is awesome.

@.twist.: She only has one other novel, The Lovely Bones. It's difficult subject matter, but a beautifully written book. Her other book is a memoir about being raped in college.

@.twist.: yep I've read them all up to Broken Harbor. They are awesome - I highly recommend. For some reason in the beginning of each one I'm unsure but a few chapters in and im like, living in that world. I think they're great!

@JerricaBenton: I read Girl on a Train, too. I totally did NOT guess the ending. I thought it was going to be someone else (don't want to give out spoilers). I really liked the book, but something did feel off about it. I still liked Gone Girl better for some reason.
I love Tana French! Broken Harbor was good, creepy, but good.

@MediaNaranja: I'm about to finish Dragon Fly in Amber. What did you think?
My next book will be the last Jhumpa Lahiri and my MIL's historical book on pirates.

@mrsjazz: haha I'm always trying to guess mystery endings so maybe that's why I guessed it. Maybe that's part of why I love the French series so much - because there's so much going on with the characters you don't have time to guess what's coming! I also liked Gone Girl better than Girl on the Train. I think because the narrator is so confused because of her issues, it made it so uncomfortable to read.
Glad to hear Broken Harbor is good! Have you read them all? Which is your favorite? I think mine is The Likeness. I was so sucked into that story!

@JerricaBenton: I liked The Likeness but it I had problems believing the premise. I don't know if I have a favorite, I liked Broken Harbor, The Secret Place, and In the Woods a lot!
pomegranate / 3872 posts
@mrsjazz: haha yeah it certainly was a far-reaching premise but all her books have a kind of creepy, dream like quality that just sucks me in I guess Cool I'm very excited to get into Broken Harbor.

I just finished Big Little Lies and Girl on the Train. I enjoyed both but I liked Big Little Lies Better. I felt like most of the people in Girl on the Train had few redeeming qualities and I didn't really like any of them, so it was a little hard to get into. Now I just started The Nightingale. It's supposed to be amazing, and so far so good!
@JerricaBenton @mrsjazz: Totally agree about Girl on the Train being uncomfortable. I kept telling my H, "I'm reading this book and it's creeping me out, but I have to keep reading to figure out what happened." I was also surprised by the ending, I had predicted something else! There was just something...unsettling about the book.

@MrsSCB: Haha yes I had basically the same conversation with my husband. Big Little Lies looks good!

I've been reading Quiet by Sudain Cain for a few weeks now. I find it interesting.

@MediaNaranja: I am reading Dragonfly in Amber too, and not loving it. I enjoy it enough that I want to finish and see what happens, but I'm only at about 52% and want to get it over with.
I must have 100+ books on my to-read list! I can't wait to have more time to read. (Don't know when that will be )

@elljay: I read The Husband's Secret. I didn't love it but I liked it, and have thought of it often since I finished it. I'll have to look at her other books!

@BKCaribBaby: @shellio: I think it's ok, but it is moving really slow! I'm about 100 pages in and I feel like nothing has actually happened. Not enjoying it as much as the first book!

I also just read Big Little Lies. I took a small issue with it, but liked it ok overall. Now I need to find another book to start- this thread has given me a few ideas!

I'm reading The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman. It's about the Hmong people and one family in particular whose daughter suffers from epilepsy and how they deal with the medical system in CA. Really interesting.

@Mrs Green Grass: I read that quite awhile ago in school. Should be required reading for health professionals.

@Mrs Green Grass: I loved that book and totally agree with @Espion!
@MediaNaranja: Oh ugh it goes on like that for a long long time. Not exciting. I figure it must get good at some point since it has 4.5 stars on amazon! Then again I think a lot of people probably like the sex scenes which I'm not into, ha ha.
pear / 1672 posts
@shellio: I feel the same way. I am about 40-50 to the end, and it has gotten more exciting. There is a lot less sex than Outlander though. I wouldn't say I love the books, but I do find Jamie and Claire interesting. At this point, I'm reading this book to see why the beginning is the way it is.
@MediaNaranja: Yeah, I feel like Gabaldon's books are an investment of a lot of time. She takes awhile to get started, and then is very detailed. Sometimes too detailed. I'm trying to figure out if I want to read the next one. I may take a break since I just finished Outlander before this one.

@lemong: oh I loved elephant company but completely forgot I read it, ha! Good reminder-I should look for her other books as well.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: ugh, Shopaholic to the Stars was not good! The ending was so disappointing, too. Kinsella should have quit while she was ahead!
I'm on a massive Liane Moriarty binge right now! I'm grateful for an e-reader...so much easier to use as a BF mama!

@mrsjazz: Oh! I've seen that movie. I enjoyed it right up until the end, it was so unsatisfying! haha I wonder if I would enjoy the book more, anyway. Thanks! I will add that one to the list!
@JerricaBenton: I am totally going to add Girl on the Train to my list after all of you girls talking about it, sounds so interesting!
@avivoca: I am so conflicted whether or not to keep going in the Outlander series. I really enjoyed the first one, but everything I hear about the following books is so mixed!

I am reading "No Name," by Wilkie Collins, who is one of my favorite authors. It's a very fun read. This is the 4th book by him that I've read, and while it's not the first one I'd recommend, and the plot is kind of ridiculous, it is also deliciously engrossing.

@.twist.: do it! I really like the whole series, I think you will too!

@CRGmama: Is that good? I have been thinking about reading that one for a while now.

@Mary Mary: I like it so far! I'm about 40% done. There's a lot of imagination and imagery. It's been recommended to me by a couple friends who have very similar taste so I thhink I'm going to really enjoy it.
