I'm a pretty logical person but sometimes I buy into astrology a little bit and maybe it's because it's been right for virtually all of my friends but each month I dream about the sex of the baby that the Chinese gender chart tells me ill have. My son will get a baby brother if we get KU this month! I also won't be walking under any ladders if I can help it and I knock on wood constantly. What are your silly superstitions?

OK this is not really a superstition and I'm getting better about it but... It has always been really hard for me to, like cover up stuffed animals or put them face down of anything like that. It's like, they're going to smother. (Covering my face in shame right now.)

@mamimami: I have one more embarrassing. I will not look in a mirror in a darkened room (most especially the bathroom) because I don't want to see Bloody Mary's face.
I throw spilled salt over my shoulder. I feel like there's something else, but I can't remember what now. I'll have to think on it.

@lovehoneybee: I will literally not look in a mirror at night.I don't know if I have any really that I like truly believe it. I mean, I'll avoid opening an umbrella indoors if I can help it, but no biggie.

I don't believe in going to cemetery grounds when KU. I feel like it's a bad omen. My sister, too. She came to our grandmother's funeral but wouldn't go to the grounds for the burial, she was 8 months along.

I'm Korean, and we have this thing about falling asleep with the fan on at night. They'll say you'll die if you do, so we never do it even though my non-Korean husband says I'm insane. I have grown to allow a very slow-moving ceiling fan, but no stand alone fans.
Koreans also tend to think of dreams involving snakes or tigers or aggressive animals to be a bad omen. Although my family is devout Christian, if one of us has a dream with those types of animals in the dream, we tell each other to be a little extra vigilant and careful the next day.
I don't like having an open bedroom door at night - it creeps me out.

It freaks me out!! The mirror thing is actually my biggest superstition. Ever since I can remember I've always felt like it was some kind of portal to the demon world or something. It's a far bigger problem for me than I would ever admit to someone IRL.

I cannot sleep unless the door to our closet is closed. It's totally and completely ridiculous, like if I wake up to an open closet door I will have a full-blown panic attack. DH has tried to reassure me that no one has created a passageway to my closet and is going to use it to kidnap me and then kill me in an extremely gruesome way...but whatever, he's the one who made me watch the first episode of The Following with him. It's all his fault, right??

I don't write peoples names in red! If a cashier wants me to sign my receipt with a red pen I ask for a different color.I don't know if this is a Korean thing but it's something my mom does and I totally picked it up.

Oh, this will totally give me away as a paranoid person but I have to check LO's closet and under her curb and two dressers each night before bedtime. I'm crazy.

I won't put new shoes on the table because it's bad luck. I'm also afraid of the dark until I'm at my destination. Like I'm cool in bed if it's dark, but walking through my dark house to get to bed is dangerous.

this thread. I'm with you all on the dark mirror, and must have all doors closed in the room I'm sleeping in.I'm terrified of things under the bed, so when I turn out the light at the door to our room, I kind of run/jump into bed so nothing can grab me. It drives my husband insane.

@MrsMccarthy: haha, I won't let DH flush spiders down the toilet because I saw one float once and I'm convinced that they are going to crawl back up and attack when I'm using it.

@prettylizy: Ohh same here! Pre-baby, I used to not be able to sleep unless I turned off/covered every light (like the lights on a sleeping computer, or an alarm clock). As pitch black as I could make it. But getting to the bed, or having to use the bathroom? I would run into the bathroom, eyes squeezed shut until I turned on the light (see above comment about Bloody Mary), and then run back with my eyes squeezed shut, hurl myself into bed and huddle with the blankets over my head, heart pounding, for a solid minute.
And outside? Forget about it.
I think I just have a very overactive imagination, lol!

@lovehoneybee: I use my cell phone as a flash light if there are no lights on, but will walk clear across a room, turn on the next light, then turn around and flick off the light behind me so I don't have to walk in the dark.

@swedishfish: I am TERRIFIED of Jaws, just scared to death. I've never seen the movie but was forced on the ride at Universal Orlando at a young age and was scarred for life. I cried for a week every time I had to get in the tub.

@Mrs. Pen: my mom has worked in a hospital for 30+years and swears by this! I've noticed it too at work, clients get nutty around full moons. I'm also pretty sure I won't have this baby until the weekend because of the full moon

@prettylizy: I thought they were all crazy... but then I had 3-4 crabby/mean patients in one night during full moon - and that never happens! In general people are pretty pleasant and I only get crabby ones a couple times a month!

I don't know if this is superstition or not, but I have a pretty strong belief in like… not tempting fate/the universe. Like if I'm nervous about something and it is going well, I won't mention it because I feel like mentioning it is tempting the universe to take it away. (or if someone does mention it, I knock wood).
Also I don't lie about serious stuff (especially health) because I feel like that is tempting the universe to make it happen. Like lets say I want to say no to plans and can't be honest for some reason, I may say "oh I can't because I have work to do" because that is like… no big deal if I really did have work to do. But I would never say "oh my mom is really sick and I have to go see her" because I feel like the universe would punish me by making her sick.

@Mrs. Pen: @prettylizy: I work in hospitality for now and I swear this is true! I don't keep track of the moon cycles at all, but guaranteed if all the crazies are out, I look outside and it's a full moon. Every time.

I knock on wood. I cringe walking under a ladder. And I stopped wishing on objects because I once wished at 11:11 that my class would be cancelled the next day. It was, because my professors dad passed away. I was convinced that bad things will happen to make your wish true.

@prettylizy: @Mrs. Pen: yep. My mom is a nurse and she has the craziest stories from when she worked in the ER - all involve a full moon haha.
