My SIL suggested some books for my 3.5 year old nephew for Christmas. He tends to lean more towards "boy" things which is why I specified. Otherwise I wouldn't' care.
Maybe a good holiday classic like The Polar Express?

My 3 year old DS is into anything "silly" these days.

Pirates Love Underpants
The Day the Crayons Quit
Randy Riley's Really Big Hit
Also, he is LOVING the Book with No Pictures right now - we read it at least 10 times a day.

My 3 1/2 year old (boy) loves The Polar Express book! We got it as a read aloud with a CD and he will actually sit and listen to the entire book.
He also really likes the National Geographic Little Kids "My First Big Book of Animals," there are several in the series. Another favorite is "Nature Anatomy: The Curious Parts and Pieces of the Natural World" by Julia Rothman.

Oh man, P is all over the place with books. He loves all things boy too but some of his favorites to smile and laugh over would be
-Peanut Butter and Cupcake (very cute friendship story)
-The Diggersare Coming! (shows construction from demolition to the finished buildings in rhythmic rhyme)
- King Jack and the Dragon
- Freckleface Strawberry and the Dodgeball Bully (which is actually more about dealing with fears of a dodgeball than any bullying)
- Clifford the Big Red Dog
- Room on the Broom
- Gruffalo

Even Firefighters Hug their moms is super cute. Also Elisha Cooper books (Train, Building, Beach, there are others) are great - the illustrations are Gorgeous. My son was also really into Ox-Cart Man, Mr. Gumpy's Outing and all Eric Carle books at that age.
