Or what books do you have that you will keep to pass down to them? Maybe your childhood favorites or DH's.
My parents never read longer chapter books with me, so I'm hoping this is something I can do with the girls in the next couple years. I will definitely be saving my Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Narnia type books for when they are a little older to understand.

@autumnlove: same! Right now she is loving the Little House series which is a abbreviated version. She has 5 books from the collection. But I have originals I found at a used book sales years ago I want to give her when she's older.

Oh my goodness, this thread is making me so excited. My son's only 7 months so we're still in the Dr. Seuss phase, but I can't wait to get to chapter books. My mom and my grandfather read to me A LOT when I was a child and I'm a huge reader now. There are so many childhood favorites that I can't wait to read with my son. Top of the list are

I can't wait for the day when I can read Nancy Drew to my kids. I own over 100 books...I was a bit obsessed as a kid, and I admit I still buy them sometimes at used book sales for 50 cents each.

I bought a Roald Dahl box set before my son was even born, I can't wait for him to get old enough for them. And Harry Potter. I recently bought the first Ramona book for my Goddaughter because her mom said they weren't reading her chapter books yet (she's 5) and I thought it was time and that would be a good introductory one (that sounds pushy, but I didn't demand they start reading it to her, I just said it was one of my favourites when I was little).
