My oldest needs some sort of athletic shoes for gym class at school, she will be able to wear them other times as well so I want them to last throughout the year.
What brand of athletic shoes do you recommend? Something without laces, or "fake" laces. Still working on learning how to tie.

@Bao: I dont know what size you need but we LOVE the Stride Rite Soft Motion Ripleys. And bonus - they are not ugly! I especially love the purple ones!

The Saucony Ride 7 doesn't have laces and goes up to big kid sizes.

Surprize by Stride Rite right now. I don't want to invest in name brand shoes until her feet aren't growing quite as fast.

We are devotees of the Stride Rite Ian model. But my son has REALLY wide feet. We buy them in the XW size. So our options are limited.

Another brand if you need a waterproof model is Merrell. They also have wide widths, if you need it.

They have Nikes right now and both have the model with the no tie laces and 1 Velcro strap at the top. Not having to tie them is a definite plus!

DS1 has liked his Sauconys the best because they are the most lightweight of his shoes. Personally since we've graduated from Stride Rites, I've liked the 3 pairs of Saucony shoes we've had (all in velcro only) and his Asics. I have some Nikes and New Balance on deck in the next sizes, but I can't comment on them yet.
