DD is gonna be 5 mo soo and sooo active and I feel like eventually the changing pad won't really contain her. I see parents of toddlers just changing them as they're standing/running around. So I'm curious what people do once they choose to stop using the changing pad?

We're at 11 mo and still using a changing table/pad. LO is SO RIDICULOUS when getting her diaper changed (trying to sit up, roll over, run away) but she is 10x worse when not on the changing table. So for now I anchored the table to the wall so she can't shake it so much and just keep a hand on her chest all the time to try to keep her sort of still.

You could put the pad on the floor. I still change my 8 month DD on the pad and occasionally my 2.5 yo son. I usually just change DS wherever and if it's poop, I put down a chuck pad under him.

Keep using the changing pad. I don't want poop all around my house!

When LO got bigger, we started changing him on the floor. We now do night diapers, so we still change him on the floor. By 1 years old, they become like gladiators with changing tables.

LO is 19 mo and I still use the change pad/table.

DD's changing pad has a "seat belt" that I always have to use. If I don't, she can flip over and be on her feet in about three seconds, but if I strap her in she's usually pretty content to let us change her.

@snowjewelz: We still change our 19 month old on the changing pad on top of the dresser in her room. Her legs are totally hanging off and I just know one of these days she's going to be able to kick the lamp at the other side of the dresser, but it's 100 times easier to have her contained up there versus having the freedom to get up and run!

We just throw a small blanket on the floor. If it gets something on it we just throw it in the washer.

LO is 2.5 and I still almost always use the changing pad. Changing them standing up is really tough unless you're using pull ups!

We put a towel under the changing mat and do it in the crib... Is that gross? Obviously we change the sheets if there's a mess...

We are at 7.5 months and it's getting increasingly harder to change him on the table. But I agree that on the floor isn't a ton better.
One thing that helps a lot is keeping small toys in little bin or top drawer. When he gets antsy or fussy I hand him one and he instantly lays still and focuses on the toy. -

@SweetiePie: I have a toy arch that I clip on for her already... Somehow she manages to kick it down sometimes! Or she is so violent pulling on the toys!

@snowjewelz: I found this ting called a Poo-Poose on Amazon. It's basically a contoured changing pad with a thick, plush strap that velcroes. It was a godsend from 5m-13m when lo just got to be too chunky for it to Velcro around his girth lol. At 13m, we started doing changes standing up on the toy box (which gets wiped with a Clorox wipe after every change).

LO is 20 months and we still use a changing pad.

At 18m we still use the changing table. In the morning he hates getting dressed so gets upset, but if I hold him still for a minute he stops fighting me and starts laughing. If I were to change him on the floor he'd just roll over and run away. It's easier to keep him from rolling over on the table up against a wall. And I hate doing changes on the bed. We do it at my parents' house but it kills my back.

15 months ... we either use the pad or the floor. She's decided that diaper changes are the devil right now, so really, it's wherever I can trap her!

Never used an actual changing pad. I have diaper supply baskets in several places around the house (includes a foldable pad). I just change them wherever I am.

@snowjewelz: Maybe take it down and try a couple of loose toys that she can hold on to? Maybe the arch is making her squirmier since she's trying to get to it/kick it?

We have had the changing pad on the floor for a long time now - DD is 22 months. DH will change her standing, but I just can't, she is off in a flash! I use books and toys to distract her and keep her from rolling away

My LOs are crazy on the changing pad, but doing it on the floor is worse because they think they can just get up and run away. I keep a bunch of fun toys up there that they only get on the changing table. I also give them my phone if I get desperate. That one is a surefire way to get them to lay back and calm down! After the initial wipe down I sometimes let them stand up and look at themselves in the mirror above the table while I get a new diaper and their pants on, but it's tricky that way and I've gotten peed on...a lot!

I used the changing pad til my daughter was potty trained, right around 2.5 years.

@twodoghouse: THIS. It's hard on the pad (which we have on a dresser) if he's squirmy, but it's worse on the floor where he can escape! He's 17 months, by the way.

18 months and still using the changing pad. I definitely have to put up with some acrobatics, but it's better than on the floor where she can get away.

Anywhere that's flat so bed, floor, etc. If we were at our old house, I'm sure we'd be using our changing pad still. We used it religiously!

He is 2 and we still use the changing pad on the dresser upstairs. Downstairs we just use a portable changing mat for poop or just plop him on the floor for pee. It had been a wrestling match for a long time to change him but now he doesn't like the feeling of the dirty diaper so he has gotten easier as long as you're quick.

I haven't used ours in months! I just plop down and change him where ever we are. I'm also pregnant and couldn't fit next to the changing table if I tried

DS is 16 months and very squirmy, but I find it SO much easier to keep him contained on the changing table.

Even at 2.5 yo we use the changing pad on the floor (or a towel) for M.

We have a soft gear changing mat that we just use on the floor. I slide it under the crib when we aren't actively using it.
