I got him a silver version of his wedding band to wear camping/on trips, because he nearly lost his gold wedding band while on vacation!

I wanted to stick with the traditional paper gift so I got him tickets to see one of his favorite comedians. He was performing in Boston, which is 4 hours away, so we spent a weekend there.

@KissMeCait: Aw that's a great idea and a great way to stick to the "paper" tradition!

I created a wedding album using Snapfish and he thought that was sweet. We went to St. Lucia too.
@KissMeCait: We love going to comedy shows, NYE 2012 we saw Mike Epps- wildly inappropiate. Which comedian did you guys see?

We did paper gifts too. His made me bawl like a baby. He gave me a card that explained that the past year had been the best of his life, and for our first anniversary he wrote down in a letter everything he loved about us and everything he looked forward to in our lives together. The card explained the purpose of the letter (which he then handed to me). On the outside of the envelope he had written "To be opened on June 4, 2052." It will be our 50th anniversary and we will be 76.

Now you guys are making me think I should get some kind of paper gift to go with the silver ring!

I made him the tree...the text is a reiteration of our vows (the ideas, not word for word). I cut out all those damn leaves by hand. The painting was his gift to me based on a wedding picture. He's planning on doing some touch-ups, mostly to my forehead and neck, and one day will, I'm sure

@FutureMrsMcK: Aw that is amazing!!! Great job! Did he love it?
And wow, a painting! You have an artistic husband there!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Artie Lange. He's totally gross but pretty funny. Mike Epps is hysterical. Was that in NYC? I thought I saw him performing there when I was looking at Artie tickets. We'd LOOOOVE to see Louis CK but all of his shows either sold out or were $300 a pop on stub hub. DH would have killed me if I spent that much!
@pui: Are there any bands playing locally that he likes? I love gifting experiences instead of "stuff". We have enough "stuff".

@KissMeCait: Hmmm... not that I know of. Maybe I could use @FutureMrsMcK: 's idea and do something with our vows. We had personalized vows that were really meaningful.

We said we weren't you to do gifts but I made him a scrapbook of a reason why I loved him for every day for the year.
Our cake topped got ruined when we were out of town and our freezer died. DH contacted our baker and had her make another one. Drive the 4 hours, each way, to where we got married without me knowing to surprise me.

@KissMeCait: No, he was performing in Miami. I've seen Artie on TV!

@Smurfette: Aw that is super sweet! We had a wedding pie instead of a cake and we were going to pick one up from our venue for our anniversary!

We didn't get eachother anything because our gift was supposed to be going to a nearby resort for a night. But then I sprained my ankle really bad AND got lice, so we had to cancel.
nectarine / 2636 posts
@pui: well, we had to cancel last minute, so it was after the 24 hr deadline or whatever, so we couldn't change it. But we did go to a different boutique hotel for our 2nd anniversary for a night. It had a bathtub for 2! Lol. So it kind of made up for our 1st year. I was still SUPER sad after we cancelled.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: Aw well, at least you got to make up for it! I would be super disappointed too... especially for the wasted reservation and I am assuming deposit?
nectarine / 2636 posts
@pui: Yeah, something like that. I can't remember exactly but we must have lost our deposit and money was tight, so we couldn't go. Hopefully we got all the bad anniversaries out of the way with that one.

Nothing... A card? Seriously. We didn't get eachother anything. Infact, I can't remember the last time we got eachother anniversary gifts. Even when we were dating. Would I like one? Sure. But in the end we use that money on the date night which I do love. I would much rather a big fancy date than a necklace I will rarely wear and he only ever wants normal things as gifts. Nothing ever sentimental. Although, this year with it being a month before our EDD I might get him something special... who knows.

I was very, very bad and didnt get him anything. It was a really tight month financially, but I still should have made something. I still feel terrible about it.

I sent DH a care package since he was deployed. It was filled with goodies.
