I was planning to make it, but my ILs insisted on a bakery cake so I let them have their fun! Two tier with fondant ducks, pretty simple really. Plus an itsy bitsy smash cake. Cake fed fifty. It was around 80 I think for both..
Next year, DIY all the way! But we aren't having a party so it shouldn't be a problem.

A good friend of mine is a professional baker and baked LO's cake - an amazing and delicious pink ombre rose cake with gold glitter and edible pearls. It retails for $175 and she generously gifted it to us for $75! We threw a Korean traditional large first birthday party, so the cake was a big deal.

@emg86: uhh...we bought the sheet cake from Costco, lol! We had a tiny gathering and lots of leftovers for people but we put it on a costco cash card (reward card) and everyone (lo included) liked it!

@looch: I know what it feels like to fall in love with a cake. I have already picked out my 30th bday cake, one of those enormous ones from a greek-style diner, tiramisu flavored. I told my husband I didn't care about any other details, but I had to have that cake.

lol, cupcakes from a box, so well under $10. I just wanted colorful frosting for the cake smash, so nothing fancy.
I'm looking forward to #2's birthday since he is a Pi Day baby- 3.14 and next year will be 3.1415, so we are having pies and a bigger than usual bash

I spent maybe $30 in materials and made the cake and cupcakes myself. Not the best picture of the cake, but it was Peter Rabbit's garden. The veggies are fondant and the "dirt" is crushed chocolate cookies.

I made ours so it was cheap, but my backup was going to be a Costco cake.

@yoursilverlining: That's awesome!
My LO hasn't had her birthday yet, but I made her baptism cake myself for less than $45.

Other -- DH's aunt made us the cake (both served and smash) and gifted it to us as a present to LO!
Next year, less stress I'm getting cupcakes from SAM's Club!

Just the cost of ingredients, some new supplies, and time! I made LO's cake and her smash cake (six-tiered rainbow cake). I had a blast!

I made her cakes for under $15. The majority of the cost went into frosting dye.

I made her birthday cake, but a two-tier cake from a local bakery for her baptism set me back $65.

I got a round cake plus a complimentary smash cake for something like $20. I was actually floored at how cheap it was. I got it undecorated b/c we decorated ours ourselves. I think cakes w/ more than one tier are probably overly expensive b/c they are typically ordered for fancier occasions.

I made cupcakes for about $10. Boxed cake mix and an incredible homemade frosting.

@mrs. tictactoe: I asked for no borders yesterday and the bakery manager told me no!

$80 for Noelle's cake, and $180 for Jaren's cake. Inflation!! 2 tier cakes with fondant - enough to feed 30-40 guests. It was for their big Korean first birthdays, and we're not doing any bigger birthdays until they can ask for and invite their own friends. I'm glad I took that pressure off myself to attempt a cake - baking is not my thing!

LO isn't one yet, but I plan on making her cake. I made her Baptism cake and cupcakes.
