@mrbee: Yes, I really liked Being John Malkovich! I think my problem with both of the other two movies is that I felt that the message was very transparent, and was being thrown in my face over and over. I loved the message, and it did make me think at first, but I felt it went too far to the point where I was no longer trying to think about it and more just annoyed that the idea was begin thrown in my face.

I think it's the writing style that makes it feel like I'm having an idea thrown in my face, and even though it's a clever idea, it falls flat for me because of the execution.

Does that make any sense?

Edited to add: I love movies that make me think, and that's probably why I felt so strongly about these two movies, because I wanted them to make me think, and instead they made me annoyed, haha.

Adaptation was one of my favorite movies of all time. Not because I think I'm like too cool for "normal" movies... the meta-ness just sort of added an extra dimension. The characters were amazing, I thought.

@mrbee: Maybe i'll give adaptation another try too...it has been over a decade since i have seen it (wow, I feel old!) so maybe it would strike me differently now.
