Did you have to keep them in pants to protect their knees all the time?
I expect C will be crawling most of the summer, so I'm resisting buying adorable little dresses that will just get caught under her knees (right?) But rompers! They are so cute! Will she tear up her knees if they aren't protected? We have hard wood and area rugs, but we will probably spend time outside a lot too.
Curious what others found worked best. Obviously this is a pressing matter.

He wore shorts all the time 
He was crawling most of the summer last year...we sometimes put him in baby leggings, but he didn't really like them (neither did dh)... so we just let him be. most of the time we was ok, sometimes his knees were pink....but then he learned this funky crawl where he picked up his knees if they were bothering him...or when he crawled on tile

Hahaha, I was thinking about this a few days ago. I have avoided buying dresses but I've bought a few rompers, capri leggings, and even shorts.

DS was crawling all last summer last year. He wore shorts all the time. We have tile floors. You could see that his knees were darker (like a callus or something) but never seemed to bother him.

She wore a lot of tunics and leggings. I still put leggings under her dresses even though she walks because she's still getting down on the floor a lot.

I've been keeping G in leggings. Her poor little knees are getting all torn up when I put her in shorts or dressed. I plan to switch to capris when it gets really warm.

Ugh I didn't even think of this! I think LO will be crawling soon and I have all these cute little summer dresses lined up for her. Oops!

We never really had a problem with her wearing shorts during the summer with crawling. Just no cute dresses 
Norah had a few and we would tie them back like a little tail so it wouldn't get caught on her knees lol

I never even thought of this! LO is just starting to crawl. Unfortunately I already bought her some rompers, shorts and dresses. Hurts to look pretty doesn't it?

She is a leggings and tunic kind of girl anyway so glad that will work

For daycare we always dressed DD in capri pants last summer. Her class went out to the playground every day, and I wanted her to be able to crawl around without skinning her knees. We definitely needed some tough capri pants -- jeans or canvas worked best. Leggings would get holes in them way too fast from crawling on the playground.

I imagine with use, knees get roughened up and used to it. Like when I was little and ran around everywhere in bare feet. Whereas now, my feet are too sensitive to be out in bare feet most of the time.

B crawls on our hardwood all the time without pants and it doesn't seem to bother him at all.

She wore dresses/rompers. I sent a pair of leggings in the diaper bag for daycare if she was getting sore.
