What did your toddler daughter wear to a wedding?

DD will be 18 months when we go to a wedding in June. I have put her in literally one dress in her entire life, so I am having a hard time even knowing what to order. A lot of websites either don't have pictures of their clothes on actual kids, or have pictures of older kids, so it's hard to imagine the look on a toddler. Everything with a full skirt or a lot of embellishment seems like it would just overwhelm her, but I clearly don't really know what I'm talking about.

So, what did your toddler daughter wear for a formal occasion? Pictures especially appreciated!

My LO who was 18 mo at the time wore this dress to the last wedding we attended. Cotton/twill, not too full in the skirt. Wore tights underneath. I think she was quite comfortable.

DD wore this dress at 21 months to a wedding. It was too poofy for the car seat but she loved wearing it. We also only paid $17 for it not sure why the price is so high now.

She wore a version of this dress from Janie and Jack, they release the same basic dress with different colors/themes each year. It was so sweet! I liked that the skirt was just below the knee and had some extra fabric to it so when she was held during family photos it wasn't all scrunched up. I'd steer clear of "shift"style dresses if she will be held for lots of photos because they don't photograph well on toddlers in my experience.

Also, this is a great type of thing to look on kidizen, thredup or buy/sell/trade pages for because so often they are worn once so they're in great shape!

DD was a little younger than that but we got a dress around Easter time from Carters. Good price and really cute! I didn't want to spend a lot for something she'd wear once.

I recently got these dresses on Zara.com for my 2-yr-old daughter. I am not super frilly, so this is the kind of dress I would choose for a wedding.

my daughter was the flower girl, but i loved this dress and would have thought it was great for any "glam" or formal wedding!

it was from chasing fireflies.

@Cole: Good tip about shift dresses. The reason I've never put her in dresses is because I don't like how they bunch on non-walking babies, so this is something important to consider.

@CatchAFallingStar: I love that second one! I've found a few long sleeved ones that I like, which could be okay for June in VA, but might be too hot.

What do you all think of these (blue from Cotton On, white from Boden)?

@lady baltimore: cute! I think the Boden one will likely be more formal looking. We have the dino version and it washes up well too if you line dry it. Here's my daughter in it at the end of the night so it was a bit wrinkly but not bad. She was 29# and 34 inches with some room to grow in a 2-3.

Some of my favorites -

Well Dressed Wolf - their dresses are amazing and photograph SO WELL. We have several of their dresses, but one of my favorites for a beach wedding in Maui was the maxi.

Tea Collection - can't go wrong w/their party dresses. Way too many to list, but we wore this to a wedding 2 years ago and got tons of compliments.

Personally, I think the Boden dress you posted looks too casual for a wedding.

@Cole: Thanks for the personal-experience review of that dress! Where did it hit your daughter, length-wise?

@pinkcupcake: I've never heard of Well Dressed Wolf before - I will check them out!

This is why I always ask for recommendations about wedding attire. I am not into ruffles & frills, and I wore Old Navy to my own wedding, so my tastes always skew informal. I am not sure about the formality level of this event.

@lady baltimore: probably right above the knee. Well dressed wolf is amazing but you'll have to buy one on resale unless you're into the competitive sport of girls clothing shopping! (Which I totally am so I'm not knocking it but it doesn't seem your speed!)

@lady baltimore: it sells out within minutes of being released! People literally buy anything they can and then sell and trade on BST pages on Facebook. It's insane! A friend bought a dress at the last release for $55 and sold it immediately for $100.

Costco had some cute dresses for Easter or whatever for $16.99. Some were frilly but some were just sweet and spring-like. A lavender eyelet one and a blue and white stripe dress with flowers, for instance. Empire waist with a tie back sash.
