Mom (sometimes Mama) and Dad (Sometimes Daddy)

Mom and Dad, grandparent names, and first names are all viable options around here. When I was in high school my brother and I both worked for my mom (coaching tennis at a club where my mom was the head coach). She told us we couldn't call her mom at work and we told her we sure as hell weren't calling her Mrs. XXXXX so we went with her first name and it stuck. Soon all of our friends were calling her by her first name too.

Mother/ Father...especially in public b/c they always know it's me.

I'm debating putting "mom" or her actual name on a bday cake. It's so weird to use her first name.

I work with my mom, and we run the business, so generally if I'm referring to her to an employee I use her first name. And then of course I use grandma and papa when the kids are around.

Just when I am shouting for her in a public place "Peggy!!"

I worked with my dad at his office so I used his professional title or his first name in that context. Other wise it's dad or papa. My mum on the other hand I generally don't use her first name unless I am looking for her in public.

Parental Units.

Mom, momma, mother and dad or father.

I always called my parents mama and daddy, but sometimes I feel too old to say that so around college I started coming up with nicknames for them. Now I call them gram-ski and papa-ski (their current grandparent names) most of the time because I'm with my son. And my brother consistency calls my mom 'short round' so that's what I use if I'm talking to him.

Now that I have a kid, I usually refer to them by their grandparent names: "Gigi" and "Papa".

Same situation, I worked for my dad for years and called him by his first name. It's a habit that hasn't gone away! My mom will always be"mom".

@mrbee: my mom is pretty short and we watched a lot of Indiana Jones (and Short Round is one of my all-time favorite sidekicks) so we just put the two together, I guess. For the record, she is not round at all, but does have a good sense of humor to put up with us.

I often use their grandparent names if the kids are around. We also interact professionally frequently and I bounce between mom and dad and first names depending on the situation. My parents are also both lousy at responding to mom or dad in a crowd, so first names there too.
