someone called into work and said her nanny AGENCY couldn't provide a nanny for her sick nanny today.
what do you do if your nanny gets sick? frantically scroll through care.com?? any seattle based agencies you'd recommend?

Luckily, our nanny has only been sick/called out twice and I was able to stay home with DD (you can use sick leave for that). My company also provides a "life care" benefit that includes 5 days a year of back-up care. I would have used that if my nanny called out on a day that neither my husband nor I could stay at home.
We are about to move DD to daycare and it's going to be much worse, I am afraid - daycare is open every day, but I can no longer leave DD when *she* is sick.

As a nanny I always try to avoid calling in such but usually the solutions they come up with for those odd days are:
*Grandma
*Mom or dad takes a sick day
*Mom and dad work from home together- this worked well for one family, the tag team approach meant they were able to actually get a decent amount done.
*The cleaning lady- she was a local mom to school aged kids and she could usually rearrange her schedule
Or just a weird combination of a few options. There were a few times where I called and said- I have strep but the kids were probably already exposed. I am happy to come be a warm body and do lots of TV time etc if you can't find someone. Not ideal for any of us but one family in particular didn't have great back up.

We have a Mon-Thur nanny and a Friday nanny/cleaning, so if one is sick, we can get the other one to come in or DH and/or I will take some time off.

We are lucky that my mom is retired and lives nearby, so either she will watch LO, or DH/I will take a sick day. Thankfully, it hasn't happened too often with our nanny!

@Mrs. Chipmunk: I stay home, which I realize isn't what you're looking for.

1st resort is my husband or i stay home, or we tag team if 1 has to go in for a portion. 2nd resort is our parents. last resort is back up care service we have through work, we've never had to use this yet. if i didn't have these resources, i would check out care.com for sure.

Eek I was going to say one of us would probably stay home, or my mom (if it's not a day she's already helping). Might be a good idea to locate one or two back-up sitters for these situations?

One more option: My best friend has her own nanny (not a share) - we have shared with her on a temporary basis in the past. My daughter knows the nanny and the other child well, so that's usually my first choice in a pinch (if I can't stay home).

Our nanny had a family emergency and jury duty. We actually interviewed a friend of hers who had just ended her employment with another family (the youngest child was entering full day kindergarten, so their childcare needs changed). Does your nanny have anyone they can recommend?

We go through an agency for a backup nanny, which thankfully is subsidized by my work. DH or I work from home while the backup nanny is there.

This happened to me twice this week. I WAH, so I just have to try to manage the baby and my work at the same time, which is no fun. but I don't have any other options.

DH or I take a sick day. Family is too far away to help on such short notice.

Like back up care options? My company has a partnership with a drop off location, is that an option?

There are also some drop in daycare centers in Seattle:

And supposedly some bright horizon locations too:

I've also heard about this place for mildly ill children:
