I'm looking forward to teaching her how to catch a baseball, go fishing, and camping so that she's not a girly girl and is a tomboyish adventure lover like me.
But.... I'm also looking forward to doing all the girly things like getting manicures and shopping for clothes!

If I ever have a daughter I would be really excited about doing Christmas prep with her. Shopping, and wrapping, and baking cookies. I love that stuff.

@Mrs. Bee: I hope she's happy having her mommy help her plan! Now I feel like mothers aren't as involved anymore. My mom didn't want to be, she hates planning. I love it though! Hopefully by then the trend will be small and inexpensive

Oh gosh, everything you said, @Mrs. Bee and doing crafts with her - I already put aside kid friendly craft supplies in my craft room. I also look forward to taking her to sporting events and other outdoor events like holiday celebrations, concerts, parades, etc.

@artbee: I always think about her wedding. It would be sad if she did not want my help. I totally wanted my mom to help but she didn't want to so I REALLY look forward to having that experience with the LO.

@Andrea: I had to ask for help with certain things from my mom, and she did enjoy what we did. I needed imput on flowers, and she helped a lot with favors because we made cookies. And dress shopping of course. But for the most part I was happy doing it myself, that way I didn't have to deal with opinions. But I know I'll want to help LO and be a part of it all!

I love this question. Helps me think beyond the moment that I'm learning to love living in. Hm... not so much the clothes shopping, because it wears me out even to go alone (!), but lots of hot chocolate / milk dates at coffee shops or bookstores where we get to chat about whatever. Volunteering, traveling, tasting new things, reading together, planning surprises.

I’m looking forward to taking her to the ballet. I took ballet lessons (so did my mom when she was young), and growing up she and I had season tickets to the Seattle ballet every season, starting when I was around 4 or 5. I remember how exciting “ballet night” was – we would dress up in fancy dresses and my mom would pin up my hair and after the ballet we would always leave the building and walk around back to see if we could see any dancers leaving. Great memories of those nights! I have a pair of pointe shoes autographed by one of the dancers that I got when I was little that will go into LO's room.

I can't wait to see her go fishing with her daddy for the first time. But one of the things I've been really looking forward to is buying her first gardening set (it would have been the same if she was a boy though). Ever since I've seen DH's baby pictures pulling his little wheelbarrow full of leaves and then seeing sets at stores, I've just been obsessed. It's just way too cute!

Aww, now that DD1 is 4 we are doing a lot of these things together and it's sooo much fun! Baking, shopping... All have been so enjoyable (compared to when she was 2 and 3). I'm absolutely loving her age right now. But even besides the girly stuff, I really do just love our daily convos about ordinary and not so ordinary things... Her friends at school, rainbows, why people get sick... I feel so blessed having two daughters. Can't wait to do everything with them!

I was so much of a tomboy that I have no idea what little girls like to do. I look forward to sharing some girly moments with her, like getting pedicures (I didn't have my first one until I was 22!). But most of all, I look forward to seeing her spending time with my husband like I did with my dad.

Shopping and manicures and baking! And picking her up from sports practice....and picking pumpkins at Halloween. Seeing her face at Christmas. Omg...just about everything!

@nyccalimama - ahh i can't wait for those years!! so much to look forward to. i have one daughter but would love another. i had a sister growing up and i don't know what i'd do without her companionship.
i want to take my daughter to the library, get pedis, bake/cook together, go to museums and other fun cultural places, go mountain biking, run a 5k together, prep for the holidays, talk about anything and everything!!! ultimately, i just want to be there for her and let her know that i will always love her no matter what.

I so look forward to baking with my (maybe future) daughter like I did with my mom and grandma. I also can't wait to teach her the art of bargain shopping, dance in the grass in the sunshine in twirly dresses, paint her nails and do her hair, take her for her first haircut, watch chick flicks and then remind her that's not reality but a fun fairy tale, etc. I think the thing I'm most excited about though is showing her how to love. I want her to see my relationship with her daddy and show her what true love is. I also want to teach her to nurture so she'll hopefully be a good mommy someday herself.
