Big storm's a-comin to the area (2 feet of snow! bring it!!) and I'm excited. I love snow and I think tomorrow we'll introduce Wagon Jr. to hot cocoa. It's time.
Thankfully I stocked up on milk, eggs, and bread a few days ago. I don't want to brave the shops tonight. It's gonna be madness! We've got plenty of batteries. I might send Wagon Sr. out for more bottled water.
What do you usually stock up on before a big storm?

Groceries to make soup, milk, cookie dough (don't hate- I have no time to make from scratch), cereal.
I also make sure we have enough wood in the garage in case we want/need to start a fire. We had rain this morning and the snow we are getting now (in WI) is really wet and heavy so hopefully it doesn't cause a problem with the power.

After the freak snowstorm two years ago on Halloween, I've learned not to stock up on fridge stuff because we lost power for 4 days...
So instead I stock up on pop-tarts, granola, pretzels, and some other snacks that don't need to be refrigerated. With LO this year, we also made sure we have more than enough formula and baby food.

.... we don't prepare. I'm not impressed by snow storms, lol.
We're supposed to get a good storm this weekend, too. I'm excited for fresh powder but a little frustrated that we still have about two feet of snow in our yard. It just doesn't melt fast enough!

We're getting hit with the storm right now! (I'm in Wisconsin) we don't stock up on anything. DH and I are actually going out tonight, we're braving the storm! Although we are only supposed to get like 6-7 inches of snow

we have enormous emergency stashes of food and water, so we mostly just haul in wood and fill the gas tanks in our cars. if it's a really big storm, we'll fill a few gas cans too.

We don't prepare, either. I'm in the south, though, and usually anything that comes is gone within a few days. I always think it's silly when people around here rush to get the bread milk and eggs for only one or two days. I'm sure most people are like me and have plenty of nonperishable food items to make it one day.
My mother and I joke that these people must have a tradition to make french toast when it snows!
If it was predicted to be a little more severe, I'd stock up on toilet paper and non refrigerated things, just in case of loss of power.

Wine and cheese! I bought a bottle of wine and a wheel of brie at lunch so bring it on mother nature!!
We have a walk-in pantry so we have a lot of food at our house at all times. We have a private well so we keep bottled water on hand in case the power goes out and the well won't pump.
Other than that, we just double check that we have enough gas for our snowblower. Both our cars are 4WD/AWD so we're good there.

Last time I didn't prepare I was stuck pregnant and without power for almost a week. I could deal with picking up pizza on the way home from work but the no hot water got old fast. Fortunately it was summer but not super hot, so the no AC didn't bother me. Now it's a different story. It's a giant snowstorm and it's freezing outside.
We've stocked up on food and batteries. Loads of no-cook foods for DS. All our electronics are charging. I think I'll download a few movies on the iPad. Down blankets are on all the beds.
At least if we lose power I won't have to worry about keeping our food cold! Last storm I had to toss our frozen wedding cake and everything else in our freezer.

I've never had to prep for a big storm. Usually if its "storming" here, it'll pass in a few hours.

Normally, junk food. Namely, chips and cookies. We have more than enough food for P at home, so I am not worried about her. I am thinking of going tonight and getting some random things (maybe protein bars, crackers to have with peanut butter, water bottles). Since we live RIGHT on the weird weather line, we never know if we are going to get slammed or get next to nothing. It's the worst.

Bread and make sure our electronics are charged. But we don't really have to bunker down for storms...South Eastern Ontario is pretty well equipped to deal with them!

It's funny because we share our weather with Detroit and get essentially the same storms, but things will shut down over there FAR quicker and longer than they will here.... it's not like we're far apart.... if I'm on the waterfront I can see cars driving on the other side of the river.

We've never had a big storm! I would probably get water, canned food, etc. Candles, batteries, annnd charge everything!

we didn't prep much - i got all the laundry done (in case we lose power), and I have non perishable and stovetop food ready to go, batteries..
didn't fill the car tank..1/4 tank. oops. I'll make my husband fill it on his way to work tomorrow!

We don't really prepare. We always have a ton of food anyway. If I had to get something it would be batteries. ( I need them to make my pump go should we lose power, but we do have a genenator)

Yeah, after losing power for 5 days with Hurricane Sandy this fall, the only thing I'll stock up on is water and shelf-stable foods like soup (we can still use our gas stove if we lose power), peanut butter... Nothing that requires refrigeration!

@Honeybee: I was just going to say, maybe it's just me or maybe it's an East Coast thing, but we don't do storm prep. I figure, I'll strap on a pair of skis and ski to the local grocery store if I really need something... but I've only done that once in Truckee after a week long storm. It was so FUN! I put on tele skis and skied 3 or so miles to the store.
Where I'm from (and you) 6-8 feet is just a really fun day, not a big deal... and it's always so nice when they close 80. I have been known to snowboard down the middle of I-80 when it was closed!
Edited to add: Guess where we're supposed to go this weekend? Your old stomping grounds. (Like growing up stomping grounds). Not sure we're going to make it. We'll see!

DH picked up some milk but that's because we were running low anyways. We already have batteries, flashlights, candles, water, etc so we didn't really need to stock up on anything this time around.

My parents have sort of an underground bunker filled to the brim with a years supply of food, water, medical supplies and toiletries. I have a 72 hr kit that can last me til I hope the fence to my parents!
