We have a years worth of food in the basement. We don't do much winter storm prep other than making sure we have appropriate stuff in our trunks. I keep water, a sleeping bag, a warm coat and gloves, diapers, etc. in my trunk all through the winter in case I break down somewhere.
During tornado season I keep an extra set of tennis shoes in the basement for everyone in the family and make sure to keep water down there as well as a storm radio. I also make sure all of our important documents (marriage license, birth certificate, ss cards, etc.) are in a tub inside the gun safe that's easy to grab and go in case we need to make a run for it.
