I order salads at nicer restaurants and burgers at casual places.
I hardly ever do pasta dishes (since I can make those at home for cheap). My salads that I make at home taste nothing like my favorite restaurant salads!

Mexican places - Chimichangas usually. Or sometimes tacos or tortilla soup if I"m not as hungry.
Italian places - spicy pasta or sometimes pizza if they do wood ovens
American places - salad or sandwich (chicken generally) or chicken tenders.

Usually a nice steak or something with eggplant. DH hates eggplant so I never get to cook it.

I try to order the specialty of the house, otherwise, I like an aged steak, whole fish, etc.

Depends! I have some favourite dishes at some places I always order, other places I just order whatever looks good at the time.

Burgers at casual places. Salad at middle of the road places if something looks more delicious than I'd make at home. I had a salad I still dream about when we were in Hawaii a few years ago. Steak at higher end places.

I order things that DH doesn't like, or things I can't make at home easily, like seared ahi tuna

@HLK208: I always order something that I either don't know how to cook or something I always ruin at home. I just feel like, why order something I can do at home?
That being said: It's usually some sort of steak and or dumpling soup-type thing.
