I have/had several former students named Sebastian. Wouldn't use it on my own, but it's a popular Hispanic name around here.

I really like it. I know Hispanics around here tend to shorten to Sebas, which I am not as crazy about, but I had a friend in college who went by Seb, which I like better.

My nephew is named Sebastian...I like it in theory, but in reality its' a little too...hoity-toity for me. And I don't love any of the nicknames.

If we used it, I don't think we would use a nn. My dd has a very nicknamable name and we don't use any for her.

@yellowbird: I think you should be prepared for others to shorten even if you won't. My LO also has a very nickname friendly name that we never shorten. However, random people from neighbors to daycare staff take it upon themselves to call her by the nickname. Now that she is older, she is beginning to stare a preference but it is something to think about.

A cute boy in my junior high was named Sebastian. He went by Seb. I like it.

I know someone who named her son that - I initially wasn't a fan but it suits him and has majorly grown on me! They call him Bash or Basher as a nickname.

@Tanjowen: I dated a guy in high school named Sebastion who went by Sebi- so I definitely couldn't use it but still like it!
But I do also think of the crab.

It's not my favorite name, nor my least favorite. If you like the name, go for it! Sebastian always reminds me of the movie Cruel Intentions, which is one of my favorite movies.
