I use it all the time. I tend to avoid the internet for medical advice and find the nurses to be helpful. Really all I'm looking for when I call is the opinion on whether we need to come in for an appointment or not.

Ours is ok, but they usually just go over symptoms and then tell us to come in or that they will see what the doctor wants to do. Thankfully we haven't had to call the nurses line much!

The nurses at my pediatrician are pretty good. So far have been helpful. The ones at my OB office are pretty lousy.

They just take a message and the ped calls back in between her next appointment. If she can't call back for whatever reason, we're patched through to the pediatrician's at the hospital. Our ped has been known to respond to emails/texts/calls personally at all hours of the night, though. We love her so much!

Not a fan. I often disagree with their advice or it seems outdated or just plain wrong- like saying I can't bf after getting a cavity filled. The nurse was looking on the internet for the info. It's weird because I really like the nurses I see in the office!

So I usually just text my friend who is a pediatrician anyway.

We just switched B's pediatrician and the new one takes all of his calls directly, day or night. I much prefer talking to the doctor than the nurses line.

I really like it. They are helpful as to if we need to come in and the doctor. The after hours nurse is through the Children's Hospital and they have been great every time I have had to call.

I like them. But I mostly used to call for reassurance. The nurses I spoke to were so nice and answered ALL my questions. It was nice to have that instead of the internet that would lead me to a dark place of "this one time I thought my baby had a cough but it was something extreme and he/she has an incurable fill in the blank." We only called twice though, so idk if we maybe just got lucky?

Ours is great - you have to leave a message with your issue, and then they call you back within about 15-20 minutes. I like that system because when the nurse calls back, she has already looked at DD's chart and heard my message, so she usually already has an answer for me. Most of the time, they have told me that I don't need to come in, but once they said that I should, and it was really easy because the nurse was able to make me an appointment while I was on the line.

My favorite thing is that the nurse is able to tell me what they are seeing across the board at any given time - so for regular illnesses, they can say, "oh, that's normal, we are seeing a ton of kids with those symptoms this week."

Ours is very helpful! They either answer me immediately, or confer with my ped and call back within 30 minutes. We can also text our ped, but I will use that as a last resort.

I've used it a couple times and found it helpful. It's good in the "do I need to take her in, or can I wait it out" situations.

Mine was not helpful the ONE time I needed them. Noticed that L was starting to get what looked like chicken pox - she had just received the vaccine a couple days prior, so I wanted to know what, if anything, I needed to do. Is she contagious? Can she be around people/go to daycare? I had to leave a message and they never called me back. Rude.

My ped doesn't have one---You can either talk to the doctor or the doctor will call you back as soon as they can. I *love* that.

My OB has a nurses line and I found that the main nurse would sometimes give me misinformation. Like once, I was worried I was leaking amniotic fluid (I was 38 weeks). She told me over the phone I was fine but that I *could* come in "if I felt like I really needed to", but she said it in a tone that made me feel stupid for "needing to". But when I actually went in to the doctor, he told me he always, always prefers patients to be safe rather than sorry and that he would happily see a patient every day than to lose a baby from a mom not coming in.

So I was like, yeahh...you might want to tell your nurse your philosophy. That kind of stuff happened throughout my pregnancy.

Ours is amazing! They are so helpful and knowledgeable, and they always give you the option to come in or have the doctor call you back.

I really like mine! They are really kind and helpful. I think that some of what they say is policy though- they tend to err on the side of caution and suggest the ER for a lot of things that I wouldn't necessarily go to ER for. So that would be the only thing, but they are kind and help me get messages to my doctor in a timely manner.

It is great during and after office hours!

I've had exactly the same experience as @septca and @MrsTiz. I like our nurse line and have found them very helpful. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is that if you call after hours, it goes to a nurse triage service (as opposed to the staff nurses) and you get charged $10. I wasn't aware of that the first time I called, and while I was satisfied with the answers I got from her and I'm grateful the service is available, when I got the bill I was like "what??"
