I'm pretty meh about it. Is it a nickname, or just Betty? I like Betsy a bit more.

@Mrs. Pen: I'd just use Betty. It's my Grandmas name. We also have a Ruby on DHs side, and a sib set of Ruby and Betty is so adorable I think.. But I can't decide if Betty is too old fashioned.

@Mrs. Pen: hehe I actually was thinking that but Betsy is one of my favorite names;) ive thought about doing elizabeth w/betsy as the nickname. (end threadjack)
I do really like Betty though! Classic!

I like it, though I'm not a big fan of names that end with a y/ie sound. I would lime it more, I think, as a nickname for Elizabeth rather than a stand alone name.

@Mrs. Champagne: I really like the nn Bets
I think the family sentiment is very sweet and I would choose a name for that reason!

@MediaNaranja: haha really?! I especially love names ending in y/ie and a!

@Mrs. Pen: I love names that end in a too! I'm probably just a weirdo for the y/ie thing

Both of my grandmothers are named Betty and I think it's cute! Unfortunately, DH is not a fan.

I don't love it, but I don't hate it. It is pretty meh to me. I do really like Betsy though.

@Mrs. Pen: yeah that is a super cute nickname!! And I'm all for nicknames! I'd probably call them Ru and Bets....
If only I were actually TTC and/or had little girls to use these names on!... One day!

I like it as a nickname for Elizabeth, but probably not as much on its own?

DH's grandma's name is Betty. We may use it as a middle name if we have a girl - we used his grandpa's name as DS's middle name. I don't mind it but I don't love it.

I would love it, but I watch Mad Men and Betty Draper ruined it for me. I do love Betsy though!

@Mrs. Champagne: I love the nn Bets! I would probably name her Elizabeth and call her Betty, though.

I love it and I have a family connection to it. It came up many times in discussion of DD's name. But it really doesn't work (or works too well) with our last name. So we couldn't use it.

Sorry, I voted hate it. It reminds me of my great grandma who was really really mean! lol.

I'm definitely a fan. My preference would be Elizabeth nn Betty, but with the family connection, you can't go wrong either way.

@Springtime: lol!!! made me laugh!
I don't think I'd lengthen the name, because i prefer honour names that are the exact same. We will see what happens one day when I have a LO!

I would do Elizabeth with the NN Betty. It's one of those old fashioned names that sounds more sweet than elegant, so I would want to give my daughter options when she's older to go by something more professional sounding if she wanted to. I just can't get the image of a 50's housewife with a frilly apron out of my head when I hear that name.

I agree with the Elizabeth (legal name)/Betty (nickname) consensus. (Just be prepared for her to decide she's actually an Elizabeth, Liz, Lizzie, Betsy, Beth, etc. when she's 18!
I've seen it happen a few times.)
