I had a patient today from Central America with this name and in her Latina accent it sounded so pretty! Definitely different, but gorgeous!
I sent it to my sister who is pg with a little girl (she is married to a Latino!). She had never heard it before!

@Mrs. Champagne: Yeah, I thought it would be pronounced that way, too, especially in Spanish. I like it with that pronunciation but not the Evan-ee-sha way.

@mrsjazz: @Mrs. Champagne: interesting. You know you're probably right that generally in Spanish it would be pronounced that way!! I should spell it for my sister (fluent in Spanish) and see what she thinks. It's super important to her to find a name that works well bilingually.

cute and I never heard it before either! but I think it would get butchered by people and be annoying to tell people over and over how to say it

@MsLipGloss: hey that's the name of a little girl I've babysat for years! She was adopted from Colombia, and they kept that name as her middle name and gave her a bilingual first name
But I think it may have been chee-mayn-uh.

@Mrs. Pen: haha so true but you said that to your sister its important that the name works bilingually. honestly, i didn't know how it was pronounced until i saw your parentheses so i think it would be hard for someone who wasn't Latino to know how to say it. its a pretty name though!

her top names, though pretty in both languages, are pronounced differently in either language. There are really no bilingual names pronounced the same in both languages!

@googly-eyes: same. That's usually not a big deal to me if I love the name. I am always correcting people on my name (spelling, pronunciation) but I love my name so I never minded.

Just seeing it, I pronounced it as you did. I used to work with an Evaney, which is also pretty.
