We're looking for a girls name that is classic, easy to pronounce/spell, and not too common.
What do you think of Vivian?
It's listed around 110ish for popularity. We could call her Viv of Vivi.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I was going to mention the Vivienne spelling as well. I like the name but much prefer this spelling.

I love it, too! DH vetoed if for some silly reason. I also like the spelling Vivienne.

oh i didn't realize the alternate spelling was out there... i just looked that up and it's ranked 166 and climbing REALLY sharply.... that makes me nervous that between the two spellings that it will be a pretty common name AND there will be confusion about spelling because it could be one or the other. UGH! Now i'm sort of turned off to it

@simplyfelicity: babycenter. here's the link. It is ranked based on the "babycenter population" which probably isn't an accurate representation of the actual population, so if i look at the US pop it says 280 for Vivienne, which is better.

This is the popularity change based on the official government statistics. It's still not in the top 100, so I wouldn't completely discount it. Although, it is becoming more popular.

Vivian was on our girl list (so I love the name), but not sure which spelling I would go with. Both are pretty.

I really like it and prefer the Vivian spelling. I think that would be my default spelling if I heard it.

Love this name and love Vivi as the nickname. I'm a fan of unique first letter names and you don't see a lot of "V" names!

Love it! Too close to DD1's name but it would definitely have been on my list!

Love it! Though I prefer the spelling Vivienne. I think Vivi is such a cute nn.

Vivian is at the top of my name list if we ever have another daughter (not happening - we're two and through). Love it and have loved it since I was a child!! I prefer the Vivian spelling because I think that's the more common way, and the way I would default spell it if I heard someone with the name.

I really like it. I prefer the Vivian spelling too - that would definitely be my default if I heard the name.

My daughter's name is Vivian. We love it and everyone always compliments us/her on the name. We are hoping the name stops rising up the charts at some point, although we haven't met another Vivian yet. No one is ever confused by the spelling (I think "Vivienne" might be confusing to some). So I am hugely biased but I think it's a wonderful name.

I like it. I think that name really hits all the criteria you listed. Classic, easy to pronounce/spell and not too common, (although I do feel it's growing in popularity.)
ETA: I know two Vivians, both in their 20s/30s. I don't know any Viviennes personally but I think I prefer that spelling over Vivian.

I love it with the spelling Vivienne! My cousin named her daughter Viviana, which is slightly less popular and still very pretty. I don't think you have to worry too much about popularity being a huge deal unless it enters the top fifty ... Which is still a ways off!
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@LaughLines: I like it a lot, spelled either way, but having two spellings like that was a deal breaker for me. But that's because I have a popular name with two common spellings and I dislike having to specify how it's spelled all the time, so it's just a personal pet peeve.
Also why I won't use Caitlin or any of its many spellings even though I love the name.

well I talked it over with DH and i think we've soured on the name. Like @Foodnerd81: said, i don't like having two spellings and having to differentiate between which one is being used. Plus the extreme jump year over year of vivienne makes me nervous that will become very popular (liek charlotte, which i also love) and if you add the two names together that's just too popular for us.
I hate that there are so many things to consider! There are a ton of names i love that i feel like i can't use for one reason or another.... back to the drawing board
