Mine like to pretend to "swim"... shampoo their My Little Ponies... waste an incredible amount of hand soap... basically everything except actually wash and clean themselves. I'd love to get them to focus on getting clean, but not sure how to make the transition.
What do your kids actually do in the bath tub?

Mine splashes and makes a mess, the bathroom is usually covered in water after. Grrr.

Play with the running water, put cups on her feet, lie down on her tummy or back over and over, splash the water, drink the water....

She likes to play with her bath toys and blow bubbles, and pour water from one cup/pitcher/funnel to another. But she's only 2!

DS is almost 2 and likes to splash, pour out water from his cups, and his newest thing is telling me he's going to lay down in the water and tries to flip himself backwards! He started doing this after we started swim class last week, no idea if that has anything to do with it.

My girls bathe together and they usually just pour water on each others' head, pretend to "swim" and dunk under water, try and climb all over each other....you know, really safe stuff.

Mine swims, paints with a silicone brush that we got at a kitchen store, races his cars.
We are working on soaping up and rinsing off though.

D showers so he's in and out.
M likes to play with toys but lets me wash him just fine during and doesn't put up a fight when bathtime is over. So far anyways lol.

She loves to play with toys in the tub. We usually give her about 15 minutes to play before we wash.

At 2.5, lately all she's done is get one of those mesh bath sponges all soapy and then play with the bubbles. Pretty much that's it. She's got toys to play with, but she doesn't even want them in the tub!

He scoops the water and dumps it out (in the tub), moves his legs side to side to create some splash, and brush his teeth. Once in awhile, he'll get a lil crazy and water will get out, but not too often (thankfully). He's 2.

@simplyfelicity: A trick that a hospital nurse showed me to keep infants from crying was to use a thin receiving blanket: Lay it down in the tub, put the baby on it, then wrap the baby (really - just cover the kid, not a full blown wrapping). Pour water on it to get it wet and keep doing that occasionally to keep the blanket warm. Take one limb out at a time to clean the body part then wrap back up so the baby doesn't get cold. Then you do just an all over rinse at the very end for any residual soap. Works like a charm.

LO1 just screams and scrambles to get out of the tub until we're done washing her. Once we:re done she remembers that she likes baths. Then she asks us to keep washing her.

He also has a set of bath foam road pieces and cars that he likes to play with, and he really likes trying to soap himself up

My almost 2 year old pours water from one container to the other. He plays with his little farm friends, lies on his belly and gets his face wet, plays with his little boat, and protests the washing of his hair.
