I'll just preface this by saying I'm very, very tired. My 9mo is sleeping terribly...... But I feel like I'm grumpy, stressed and snappy all the time and am not enjoying anything about my children at the moment. Like, there's nothing they can do (other than sit down and be quiet) that makes me happy. I know the problem is me - I've become so bogged down in all the chores that need doing, I've forgotten to enjoy things. Like, last night, E ran away from us at bedtime and went down the stairs at top speed on her bottom. DH thought it was the cutest thing he had ever seen, but I was too annoyed with her for running off to see the humour or the cuteness of it. I'm committed to working on it. I'm going to try to notice and enjoy things more.
So, what brings you joy in parenting? How do you experience it, what does it feel like to you? How about those moments of happiness? What kind of things do you find cute or funny? Tell me what you enjoy about being a parent.
One of the things I enjoyed the most at that stage was reading to my child. We usually read in bed, so it was physically comfortable, and it felt like such a productive thing to do, too. (Still does!) And watching him learn new things never gets old.
. I also always look forward to picking her up from daycare, most days she runs and jumps into my arms saying "it's my momma" She's so proud I am there and I'm her momma she points it out to everyone. I also try to enjoy our dinners together, her and I share a bench so she'll scoot close to me while we eat. And after dinner when we lounge on our couch and watch tv/play. We have tons of blankets and pillows and we just veg out, build forts and have fun. Bedtime is another favorite time bc it's just her and I... although at 3 she has become the ultimate procrastinator.. I still love this time and try not to get angry/mad at her stalling techniques....
