It means grandpa in my family but also makes me think of a dad is some old timey European village. Or something Shirley Temple might call her father in one of her old movies...

Papa means nothing. We use Pop Pop or Granddaddy for the grandparents.
To me Papa sounds more like what a dad would be called though. Both DH and I use or used daddy or dad to refer to our fathers.

it means grandpa to me (that's what i called mine), but to DH it means Dad (that's how you say it in French)

Papa is my maternal grandfather. I think it's super cute for dad too, but DH isn't into that

I call my dad Papa or Pops. I never knew either of my grandfathers. Husband called one grandfather Pupa and the other Grandpa. His father is Dad.

For me it is my FIL. That's what DH grew up calling his dad. So that's what I call him now.

I've always been used to dad, daddy, grandpa and granddaddy. DH's kids call him papa. It is still a little weird to me.

DS calls his daddy papa. DH is French and that is what most French children call their dads.

Papi is swiss german for dad, so I was against using that for my husband, but my son ultimatly chose and calls him Papia. I am Mamia.

It means dad to me but we don't use it. My BIL is papa to his kids though.

My BIL goes by Papa instead of Dad. For our LO, it means Grandpa.

I had always thought it to mean dad (I've started calling DH that since we're expecting) but I don't know if LO will call him that. Now that I think of it with this post, I think it's cute for grampa too.
ETA: I still called my dad "dad" though. And my sisters kids call him pappy so we'll just continue that.

I never used "Papa" but since I grew up in Quebec where french children use "mama" and "papa" to refer to their parents, Papa sounds much more like Father than Grandfather to me.
I was thinking though of having my future children call my step father "papa".

We sometimes use papa to mean dad, but mostly with our same sex couple friends where there is already a daddy... The other dad is papa.
