Family to me means having people who will always be there for you and you are always there for them. Whenever I hear about people who fall on really hard times and end up losing so much and alone my first thought is always "Where is their FAMILY?!". My parents raised me to be self sufficient but they (and my inlaws, and my brother, and my aunts and uncles and cousins) would never leave me out on a limb if something terrible happened to my husband and I.

Family is whatever unit you create around yourself. My husband and I were a family before we had children, I never thought of us as just a "couple" in that respect. It can include people that are not blood relatives, I find that this is the biggest perk, you can't choose your blood relatives but you can be more selective about the ones that aren't.

Family to me is unconditional love. Yes, you may drive each other insane/crazy at times, but when push comes to shove you have that unbreakable bond and commitment to each other that can withstand anything.

My younger sister drives me bonkers and I will be the first to admit it (she's an over-sharer on FB), but when someone else says something about her I get very defensive, it's what an older sister is supposed to do! I can talk about my family, you can not! ha
