@Rubies: Cool! I've actually been thinking about taking a risk management course. I have an engineering background, so different kinds of risk, but still
My DH is a Chartered Accountant!

Technically, he's an engineer. But that's sort of vague. More specifically, he writes Finite Element Analysis software for a big engineering/manufacturing company. He gets pulled into projects quite often where he has to do analysis on products because apparently once you write the software you're pretty good at operating it.

@twodoghouse: wow that one is complicated!!
DH is an orthopedic surgery resident. He's almost done with his residency. 3.7 years of 5 done....

He has a degree in education, but decided he wanted to take a break from teaching and he's currently a restaurant manager. He's applying for teaching jobs for the fall though, so he'll probably go back to that soon.

@Rubies: Omg. Why did I think he was a teacher?! Your BROTHER's a teacher.. dUr. Ahhh awesome! Smart namjas are zexy
DH is owns his own biz.

@winniebee: It's maybe not that complicated? I'm just not good at explaining it and there are big words involved! Sometimes he shows me when he "meshes things" and it just looks like pretty diagrams on the computer screen. I guess it just shows what parts going to break first!

@twodoghouse: Whenever anyone starts talking numbers my eyes glaze over : )

@twodoghouse: I think you broke my brain! I always love hearing about different types of engineering jobs.
My DH is a high-school English teacher. I'm glad he loves being a teacher because I don't wish that job on anyone! Teaching the babies is hard.

@winniebee: Me too! English major here so I work a lot better with words than numbers.
@sslm: I feel the same way and I'm not even sure what it is!

@twodoghouse: All I know is that it was an elective choice for me in my final year of mechanical engineering and I avoided it like the plague!!!

@Rubies: Really? That's what my husband does, as well!
ETA: Oh, but he does his work for a very small community bank. Any chance your husband's big bank is hiring?

My husband is an engineer. He supervises maintenance workers at a brewery.

He's a veterinarian... he would be a SAHD if he could, but thankfully for me he's the breadwinner otherwise we would fight over who gets to stay home with Cam!

My DH is a computer engineer who builds drones for the military (actually many countries militaries).

@mynoahbear: omg, i'd LOVE it if my hubby cooked for me. i love gourmet food!

@tequiero21: hahaha....he rarely cooks at home. He doesn't do much cooking at work anymore either. Mostly, he manages all the other chefs and cooks-tells them what to cook, etc. and does all the administrative stuff. I tease him and tell him I can always tell when he's had to do some cooking at work because he comes home with a cut or burn.

SO's degree is in Automotive Technology with a minor in other car stuff (I know, I should know this)...basically, he's a car guy. He can fix anything. He and I are such opposites. Lol.

@mynoahbear: o man, that sux! i guess when he's around food all day, the last thing he wants to do is cook at home. =( what a waste! lol. just make sure he cooks every once in awhile so he doesn't lose it! unless it's like riding a bike! what a skill to have!

He's an attorney - but he's one of the good ones! He does disability and veteran's benefits work primarily.

@tequiero21: what type? DH is finishing his residency in ortho surgery. 5 years of med school, 5 years of residency....then a fellowship. tell me it gets better.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Sha: wahoo! DH is in his 4th year of a 5 year residency. I'm SO over it!!
honeydew / 7968 posts
@winniebee: neurosurgeon - 4 years of med school (but he got his masters before that so he's REALLY been in school), 7 years of residency/internship/fellowship (he got off a year early from his research year and did fellowship) and finally out on his own for about a year and a half. YES! it gets better! i remember his junior year, he was living at the hospital. but now, i see his face! he's got more of a schedule, so it's really nice. although, next year, might be bad because he's going into private practice.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@tequiero21: crazy! are you going to stay at home after the bambinos arrive? when our baby arrives, DH will just be starting his last year of residency...then has a 1 year fellowship (which supposedly is not bad)....then private practice. sadly, since we live in an expensive city and I'm currently the breadwinner I'll be going back to work after maternity leave. but, i can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel!
grapefruit / 4800 posts
@winniebee: @tequiero21: I'm jealous of you both. My husband is doing his MD/PhD, and is writing his PhD thesis now but then will still have to finish the last 2 years of med school before he can even start residency. Such a long time to be in school, I made him promise no surgery though if he was going the already long route.
honeydew / 7968 posts
@winniebee: yup! luckily, the babies are coming at a time when i'm able to take off. if they came while he was in residency, i honestly don't know what we'd do! we definitely needed my income but the cost of having to hire a nanny or something would have been so high! not sure about all fellowships, but my hubby's was really nice. he got home at a decent hour! it's like being full-time, just a fraction of the salary haha. and just focus on that light, gf! it's beautiful!
@maysprout: time does really fly. next thing you know, your hubby will be working full-time and you can look back on how you guys survived! =) what is he planning to do? surgery is good money, gf! good life-style. unless he does anesthesiology (sp?) or radiology. those are good life-styles too.
