@Maysprout: Residency has really flown by for us (ehem, me!) thankfully.

@tequiero21: that's awesome!! the plan is for me to at least work during the last year of residency - fellowship may be somewhere else (find out soon...) so I might take that year off with the baby and then decide what to do thereafter.

DH is in the Military, he is a flyer. He decided to get another degree and go towards Electrical Engineering. Seeing as he has done A LOT with electronics in the Mil. Its what he wants to do when he gets out. 8 more years to go!

@winniebee: yeah, we were down south but had to move to the mid-west for a year for his fellowship. then moved all the way to ny afterwards! what a pain! luckily, for our move to ny, we used vehicle transport and full moving company (they packed for us, which was so awesome!).

you can take the year off with the baby and see if you enjoy being a sahm. and if you can't deal, then you can go back to working again!

@tequiero21: He is a bit all over the place with what he wants to do so hopefully rotations help sort things out. I'm super against a surgical residency since we'll probably have more than one kid at that time but he's also not interested since he likes his free time (I just remind him of that if he ever forgets).

@tequiero21: That's the plan! If we stay in Boston for fellowship, I'll continue to work through fellowship year.

@winniebee: @tequiero21: woo-hoo! glad to hear it hopefully gets better. peds is a short residency - "only" 3 years - but we met while in business school (he did an MBA/MD) so the entire time we've been together he's either been in school or residency and i am so ready for it to be over!!! he's been starting to talk about adding another specialty and i'm trying to be supportive but omg i don't know if i can handle a residency schedule and being the breadwinner for another 3 years!!!!!!

@Sha: woo hoo! july is right around the corner! and having a business degree will help him so much if he ever joins a private practice! i think lots of doctors are not aware of the business aspects and can get screwed over...

what type of specialty is he looking at? i think it's always good to have a specialty - gives him one up on other peds.

@tequiero21: thanks!! he's mentioned sports medicine and anesthesiology as potential add-on specialities....i'm sure in the long-term they would add value but right now i just want him to be done with residency!!

@Sha: haha i hear ya.... but a "small" investment now, will pay off big time in the future, hopefully - as long as the whole healthcare doesn't change for the worse!
