We used nutro natural choice but switched to blue buffalo to try it. We are majorly budgeting, though and I'm not sure we can swing it.
What brand do you use?
(I don't have time or energy to make his food either, lol).

We use Fromm for both of our dogs. It's expensive but they are my babies so it is worth every penny.

Eukanuba. On the high end side but they have a lot less digestive problems on it.

Earthborne Hollistic grain free with lamb
We used to use Innova and LOVED it (our diabetic dog used it for years), but our current dogs eventually stopped tolerating it, so we switched protein sources and went grain free. It has helped them. We did try Blue Buffalo with them as a puppy, before using Innova, but they got really sick on it.

We use Science Diet. Previously, she was on Iams, but she's picky and will only eat small bites food. Iams was also messing with her system, so once we switched to SD mature formula, her poops were much better, she gained some weight, and she became more playful.

My girl has eaten Beneful (many varieties) since before we adopted her so we have stuck with it.
Our cats have to have fancy, expensive prescription food ($60+ per bag?!) so I am thankful that our dog is easy to feed.

Taste of the Wild.
I wince whenever I buy a new bag, but I think paying more for quality dog food saves money in the long run as it can help prevent health issues.

We used to use origen, and the dogs loved it - but we just switched to Wellness per our vet's recommendation (less protein for our small dogs). @Meltini: my cousins used Fromm and they lreally liked it, too!

if it helps, my dog eats just about anything without issues. I prefer small bite for him because he has a small mouth (sheltie, but he's HUGE). he seems to be always hungry, and he's 5 lbs overweight..the vet wants him on a "diet" but the 2 cups a day he's on right now seem to be not enough?

Avoderm. My SIL (and sister at one point) works for them. After trying it, my very sparsely long-coated chihuahua grew in a lot of hair (at 8+ years old!) She was ALWAYS bald on her chest and neck since she was a baby. It was amazing after she was on the food for awhile, she grew in hair there! She's now 10+ y/o and has more hair than ever. FWIW, we used to use Nutro and never had a problem with it. I originally started on Science Diet, but I think it made their poop really hard.

@EvansJamie: so funny! My dog growing up was particular about her kibble size. It was funny to watch a big German Shepherd delicately crunch on her food.
This is a good site for deciding which food to use: http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/

we used Kirkland dog food for a long time. But she got a bad intestinal infection, spent 5 nights at the vet & was vomiting & had diarrhea so we have switched her dog food. We now use Blue Buffalo grain free. Right now we are giving her the one for sensitive tummies since it has probiotics in it. If she didn't have these problems, then we would have just stuck with Kirkland.

@Happygal: It is really odd, but she refuses to eat bigger kibble. Also, now she's pulling this bit where she only likes to eat her food with some soft food mixed in with it. I only give her that at dinnertime though.

We used Innova for years but it's recently had recalls due to possible salmonella contamination. We are now using Prarie which is also all natural.

We feed Wellness CORE (grain free). We used to feed Orijen, though, and I preferred it. However, it became hard to find in our town and I didn't want to have to special order it, so we switched to Wellness.

Science Diet! I usually wait for a $5 coupon + store sale at pet supplies plus... we get the economy size for about $30-$35, which feeds our two lil pups for a few months!

@Happygal: That site has always served me well! And my dog is very particular about her kibble size...granted she's not huge, but you'd think she was 5 lbs and had no teeth!
We feed Acana Pacifica...used to feed EVO for a long time, but we switched when the company got bought out and we realized it was starting to make her sick.

We use Wellness Super5Mix White Fish and Sweet Potato. Our Golden has had some digestion issues and this seems to have taken care of them!

Hills Science Diet Oral Care. She's got horrible teeth and already had to undergo a lot of extractions right after I adopted her, so the vet recommended the oral care stuff. I thought it was kind of a gimmick but it's worked really well for her.

We use Blue Buffalo for small breeds. It's all we've used since he switched off soft food as a puppy and he loves it!
pear / 1879 posts
We use Eukanuba but have also tried Fromm. He seems to do well on the Eukanuba and it's a bit less expensive, so we have stuck to that for the most part. We also "supplement" with some healthy table foods. We know most people don't agree with that, but it has worked well for us and he loves fruits and vegetables!
pomegranate / 3414 posts
We use Proplan for our Newfie. I've heard that Costco carried a Kirkland brand that is supposed to be like Blue

My dog required prescription food so we had her on Purina EN for a long time. We switched her earlier this year to Nutro sensitive stomach. One because it was cheaper and the vet recommended it. Also, the ingredients were much better than Purina.
kiwi / 506 posts
@twodoghouse: this happened to us too! We were driving out of our way to get Orijen .... then the vet commented on the high protein and recommended Wellness Core, so that's what we use now! I think the dogs preferred Orijen, though.

Acana (was Pacifica like @spaniellove, then when that one became hard to find when they had production issues I switched to chicken and burbank potato).

@Meltini: yay! Fromm is actually made in WI right near I live!!
Science Diet here!

We have a "large breed" 65 lb pit bull mix with lots of allergy and dry skin issues.
Anyone has reco on a food brand? We currently feed Nutro Max for large breed.
We've done the EVOO and fish oil pills for prolong periods of times and they seem to not have any results. Thanks!

@sorrycharlie: FWIW, I feed my cats Blue Wilderness food, and they thrive on it! I tried feeding my dog I think it was the Blue Buffalo Basics to him (which is supposed to be the easiest on their stomachs) well it gave him HORRIBLE diarrhea. Like so bad that he was 100% potty trained, but he ended up having like 4 accidents in the house. It was way to rich for his little belly. So just watch out for that!!

@regberadaisy: It's probably not the "best" or "healthiest" but we feed out dog the Large Breed Puppy Science Diet. We have an 80 lb 8 month old Chocolate Lab mix. He's in perfect health, and it works for him! We plan to move to the Large Breed Science Diet once he's 1 year.
pomegranate / 3809 posts
We feed him the Costco brand. I'm not sure what food review site I read, but it was actually rated pretty high for dry dog foods and the ingredients look good. $40 for 45 lb bag. Or dog doesn't seem to be picky. We used to feed him Chicken Soup brand and didn't notice any difference switching.
watermelon / 14206 posts
I feed them Taste of the Wild in the mornings, but I prepare their dinner by scratch, with real foods. I pretty much have to prepare a second dinner each night, but they love it and I actually enjoy doing it.
grapefruit / 4703 posts
I used to feed him Canidae, but it got recalled last year and we switched to Earthborn Holistic Adult Vantage. He loves it, so we never switched back.

@regberadaisy: we feed my Great Danes the Kirkland Salmon and Sweet Potato. We also have an alergy issue with grains, chicken, ect that caused major ear and skin issues and he's finally doing good on this food after we tried a lot of high end brands and its half the price. Good luck!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Mrsjets: oh interesting. How did you find out he had a allergy to chicken & grains?
pear / 1699 posts
@regberadaisy: with an elimination diet - we tried to fed him home made foods but he still had issues so we started trying higher end kibbles starting with Chicken and rice to Lamb and brown rice to the Salmon and sweet potato we're on now. We gave the foods months to work through him but his one helped after a week!
Also, we can't give left over chicken or his ears flare up, it's crazy how little it takes now.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Mrsjets: that is really interesting. We def notice the ear flare ups during high allergy season but never thought to look to her food! Hm. I think we might try salmon next too.

@Meltini: we love fromms! We used to use chicken a la veg, but she likes the fromms gold better. It is good, because that is cheaper!
@sorrycharlie: when we switched to a.better food, we found we could feed less, since there were less fillers. That might help!
