@Meggo5: we do that too! Last night was steamed beets, and she was sooo happy! She also gets yogurt and sometimes some poached meat. She loves it, and I think it is very good for them!

we use Precise for our shelties, as do our in-laws, and love it--our dogs are all really healthy on it and my in-laws' last two dogs have lived to about ~16 on it, so we're pretty sold on the brand! it can be hard to find in stores so we get it via wag.com
sorrycharlie, your sheltie really must be huge! we have two little peanuts--our baby is 15 lbs and growing and gets 1 cup/day, and our other dog was told he was getting too "padded" at 17.5 lbs so he now gets 3/4 cups of food

@nana87: holy cow! yeah i'm not convinced he is "pure bred" - his dad was also huge so I'm betting part collie, maybe? everyone is like "oh..is he a collie? um, a sheltie? uh.." HAHA. the girls in his litter were (and still are) peanuts. he was a beast. I'll have to get a picture of him to show you!

@sorrycharlie: haha! people always think our guys are collies too even though they're so tiny, or they ask if they're "miniature collies," which I don't think actually exist? I usually just say yes since it's easier but dh gets offended I'd love to see a picture!

We use Authority Grain Free. One of our dogs has allergies, and we've found that the grain free food really calms her skin.

We feed our dog Purina Pro Plan (I believe it's the chicken flavor) and she loves it. We used to feed her a brand from Costco but she didn't seem very enthusiastic about it. Once we switched to Pro Plan she really seemed to enjoy eating more. She's very active and goes on long runs with me and it fuels her well. We buy at Petco and generally wait til there's a sale and we have a coupon so the price isn't too bad!

We switch between Acana and Orijen. We used to feed our dog raw (Nature's Variety) but it got too messy!

We fed Solid Gold for a long time, then realized my dog's skin problems were due to allergies. We did a food trial with Science Diet ZD (prescription), ruled out food allergies (his were environmental), and then settled on Natural Balance Fish and Sweet Potato.
How big is your dog? The amount of food will differ by brand, but my 55lb shepherd mix was able to maintain a healthy weight with 4 cups per day.

Science Diet. It is what he gets when we board him and he likes it better than the Purina we used to feed him.

We feed our dog Grain Free Merrick. She loves it and it keeps her from gassing us out of the house. We have tried Halo, solid gold, blue buffalo, and wellness.

We feed ours Taste of the Wild. He has a pretty sensitive stomach. After trying Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Innova, and one more I can't remember, we finally found something that works for the poor guy.

Another one for Fromm here! We started out with Fromm Gold but the "regular" Fromm is $10 cheaper & I really don't think there is much difference.
When we got him, he was eating Nutro Max, and had the worst gas! Our vet said she has heard of more gas problems on Nutro products than any other food. His eye boogers also cleared up when we switched him.

Natural Balance, I had a bunch of dog food samples from work and let him try them and this was his favorite. He used to be a pretty picky eater, but this food solved that issue.

We used Natures Variety Instinct for a long time because our shiba was super picky for awhile. But recently we switched to the Costco brand Nature's Domain salmon and sweet potato and both dogs seem to like it (we also have a pomeranian). We are saving a lot more now that we've switched since it's about half the cost!

We used blue buffalo for a short time, but it gave our dog serious tummy issues
We then switched to Natural Balance, it was the only thing that worked for him (he had a very sensitive digestive system for a long time). It was like $55/bag but the bag was huge and would last several months. We used Natural Balance for about 2 years.
We recently got a Costco in our town and they have a dog food just like Natural Balance, but it's only $33 (or something like that)/bag! Same size so it lasts months, but we save $20. Our dog has never had an issue on the Costco food, which is really surprising because every other food made him sick.
