I wish I wouldn't have wasted the money on the rocker in the nursery, we just don't use it. It have been better in the living room where I could have rocked her during the day.

I enjoy our dresser/changing table. We use the top so we didn't buy an extra changing table & it works perfect.

@runnerd: I love my rocker/recliner in the nursery. I nurse DD in it every night before bed and for our MOTN feedings. We use our double dresser as our changing table - just put a changing pad on top and that's working well for us. We also have a PNP setup downstairs for changing.

I used the glider daily in our 1+ year of bfing. And even now, it's used by either dh or I during our bedtime routine with DS.

We had DS in our room until 12 weeks, but for the MOTN nursing sessions I always used the rocker in his nursery!

I don't use the changing table as often since we have changing "stations" scattered throughout the house, on the main floor and in our basement.

The dresser and nightstand are used for storage. And crib obvi--

We have a lazy boy rocking recliner and at 21 months we still use it everyday! I would always fall asleep nursing and it was so nice to be able to lean back. Even now when he is sick we sometimes sleep in the rocker.

We used a changing pad on the dresser until he was about 8 months then we just moved it to the floor and kept a basket of changing supplies nearby.

The only thing that is really invaluable (other than her cot) is the changing table over the cot. It's such a handy place to have it and saves space. We do have a recliner in there and I use it for night feeds--but I would say we could live without it if we were pushed for space.

@runnerd: We didn't sue our nursery at all in the beginning (it was still mainly a guest room), but everything we bought for our nursery was used other places.

-We bought a glider, but use it in our Living Room.
-We bought a changing pad to put on top of a dresser, but put it on our dresser in our room. Use it constantly
-We bought these cute storage cubes for diapers, wipes, diaper cream, etc that we put on our own dresser. Use it constantly
-We bought a crib that we set up in our room and we have used it from Day 1 for night time sleep. LO slept anywhere for naps until I nap trained at 4 months and now all naps are in the crib too.

LO is 6 months next week and just 5 days ago, we moved everrrrything (crib, changing pad and changing supplies) to the other room which is now the nursery.

@runnerd: regarding changing table/pad and portable changing table. We did both. The diapers and wipes I kept in the storage cubes which I would move to the LR during the day and change LO on the couch on my diaper bag changing pad when she was a newborn. But the changing pad was handy at night because I didn't want her peeing or pooping on our bed accidentally when the diaper was off during night time changes. Now at 6 months, we do all diaper changes on the changing pad in her room.

I love seeing how differently everyone used everything!

We never changed her anywhere else but her change table in her nursery when home, so that was a biggie for us in terms of usage!

We had a rocker in her room (old school, wooden rocker), and a recliner in our room, and I would have killed for a rocker/recliner combo.

We moved to a bungalow recently and I am interested to see how we use the house differently with a nb for the next one! I used to move her bassinet up and down the stairs every day and won't have to do that this time!

We use it all!! Changing pad on the dresser. I am no longer nursing but I still use the glider every single night with her. And it was worth its weight in gold for all those middle of the night wake ups once we moved her into her room.

We have regular furniture plus a crib and rocking chair in the nursery. We used the rocking chair a lot in the beginning but then DS stopped wanting to be rocked. We hardly use it now.

I had gotten a changing pad to put on too of the dresser and literally used it once. We have diaper changing baskets in the den and bedroom. I just change his diaper either on our bed or on the couch. It was too much of a bother to go all the way back to the nursery to just change a diaper.

the crib and comfy chair were the most important. we have a little shelf table that was handy for storing things.

we have a diaper changing pad that we used on top of the dresser in our bedroom, but honestly we could have done without it. these days we just change LO on the floor (carpeted) with a flat mat like this one:

or a disposable wee wee pad that we have for our dogs. we could have gotten away with this from the get go, but i think i was trained to think i needed a higher diaper changing surface.

I loove love our stokke sleepi crib. Worth every penny. No corners to bump into. Baby does 360s in it "walking" on the pegs. We used a tall and long dresser for a changer and it is the best. I need everything up there at once ... I wouldn't want a changer that I had to bend and gets things out of? I also never had a glider... and everything is in our master!

She has a crib, rocking chair with end table, dresser with changing pad and a bookshelf.

I would say the only thing we never used was the changing pad on the dresser. I am SO glad we didn't buy a changing table. If we had a ranch (we live in a 2 story) this probably would have gotten used more, but we just ended up changing her on the floor in the living room all the time.

Through both kids, I've needed 4 items: A place for the baby to sleep, a place for the baby's clothes, a place for me to sit and feed/rock/soothe, and a place for me to put a bottle/burp cloth/pacifier down next to my chair.

For DS that meant glider, crib, a changing table and book shelf (no closet in his room at the old house so I used bins to store and organize his clothes) and a side table.

For DD, that meant a chair (glider for a few months, then reg chair when DS tipped the glider, then back to glider in her room), a crib, my old child-sized dresser, and a bookshelf next to my chair.

Everything else? Gravy. The changing table and pad set up is good for about nine months, then I started having to change the kids in their crib or on the floor because they were just too strong/wiggly/etc for the changing table. But I still use the changing table as storage for the bins to organize things like crib sheets, blankets, so forth.

We got a hand me down glider that I hated and got rid of fairly quickly. What we do use more than anything else in her room (at 17 months) is the loveseat we already had and decided to stick in there. My husband, daughter and I are on it together reading every night and on weekends. I nurse her on it daily (and throughout the night, ugh). We sleep on it with her when she's sick. It's been our necessary piece of furniture. Even when she slept in an Arms' Reach Cosleeper in our room, I walked down the hall to nurse her on the loveseat every night, just seemed easier.

We also use her crib (been in it since 3 months), dresser with changing pad on top, and an Expedit bookshelf from Ikea. Her room is my favorite room in the house!

We used everything, with the exception of the crib, right away.

In the nursery: crib, chair, night stand, armoire, sofa bed, bookshelves
In the bathroom: changing table

Our furniture was pretty minimal and all used regularly: crib (DD/DS were in this from day 1), dresser with changing pad, glider (moved to our room when DS arrived since there wasn't room with DD's bed in the room too). I used our glider all the time with both for nursing/story time. The changing station was pretty much the only place we changed diapers, once they outgrew the pad we just change them on the dresser top. Definitely suggest going that option vs. a changing table since it will save space and have multiple purposes.

@runnerd: For an infant we did everything in our room. We had a pack and play with changing table on top and kept her most used clothes in the linen closet in our bedroom.

She went to her room at 3 months and we constantly use her glider (last night I rocked her due to a cough) and she is 19 months. Plus she loves to play on it.

We still use her changing table every day. It is a great station for getting dressed, keeping up with brushes, diapers, clothes, etc. Ours is a dresser that we already had that was painted to match her room. Its sturdy and has plenty of room for use. The shelves above have been invaluable.
