diapers, wipes, change of clothing, blanket, maybe a pacifier, burp cloths.

Hand sanitizer, changing pad, ziplock bag for dirties (diapers or clothes) just in case.

I carried diapers, wipes, changing pad, burp cloths, bottles, pacifier, extra change of clothes, and a blanket. The amount of each depended upon how long I was out. Both my boys spit up a lot so I always carried lots of outfits and burp cloths. As a newborn, bibs were out. But once they could wear bibs, I carried only 1-2 outfits and more bibs.

For newborns, I kept 3-4 disposable diapers, a small packet of wipes, a small hand sanitizer, a tube of Vaseline if you have a circumcised boy, and a disposable changing pad all in a gallon Ziploc bag, plus 1-2 quart sized bags to catch dirty diapers or onesies. I kept a separate gallon Ziploc bag with a clean zipper sleeper PJ with built in mitts, a hat, and a washcloth. A thin receiving blanket (or you can just keep that on top of them in the carseat) to use to keep baby covered or to use as a spontaneous nursing cover (unless you don't care or have an Udder Cover type deal), a few nursing pads, some lanolin and chapstick, and a paci if they take one (again, in a Ziploc bag).

I'd also suggest a bag that just lives in your trunk that has extra things in it like an extra blanket, extra onesies, a spare shirt for you and DH, a towel, some of those nursettes of formula with a nipple, extra Ziploc bags, some extra diapers and wipes.

The Ziploc bag thing is mostly because a lot of times after you use the ones you've got, you forget to replace them so if you package up a million things in Ziploc bags, you have backups!

@magnolia: we forgot the discharge paperwork at our first visit. Luckily we live super close and Dh ran home and got it.

Definitely a big warm blanket to wrap baby in after they weigh him.

@jape14: yes!! You're so smart! I had granola bars and squeeze pouches of applesauce to keep my belly full and my blood sugar up.

4 diapers, wipes, changing pad, change of clothes, burp cloths, a blanket (a&a swaddle). The blanket can be used as a nursing cover if you don't have one.

2 extra outfits in large ziploc bags (to double as wet bags)
Spare breast pads (if you nurse)

Diapers, wipes, change of clothes, blanket, pacifiers (if you plan to use them), diaper rash cream, burp cloth, hand sanitizer, breastfeeding cover (if you are nursing), breast pads (for you), and extra bags for dirty diapers. Make sure to bring any hospital discharge instructions with you, along with your medical/insurance card. Good luck!
