At least 4 of my friends are stuck at work because they can't get out on the highways, which are at a stand still. Ooof. It's like Atlanta a couple weeks ago.
The last two images are of the intersection near my house. I had to park about a mile away from there, walk down to the main road outside our neighborhood and thankfully my neighbors were around, they came and picked me up. Other people have it much worse.

I feel like it's almost irresponsible for everyone to close at once. What do they think will happen?
It's so hard for me to understand how this happens, being from the northeast. When I lived in GA for a couple of years, I remember the insanity during a little sleet.

oh man! this is why you (not *you* particularly, the royal 'you') watch the weather and stay home when it's gonna be bad! We're getting that storm tomorrow and I already plan on working from home.

Wow. They closed things here today in anticipation. I rolled my eyes, but methinks maybe it was a good idea ... it's really starting to come down now.

It is so hard to believe that such a teeny amount of snow can cause so many problems.

It makes you take for granted all the snow removal and treatment equipment places that get snow regularly have. Places like this don't have the equipment to treat and clear the roads combined with drivers who never drive in this is a horrible combination.

@plantains: I know! I guess people just are not prepared for snow there like they are in other places.

i have a couple friends stuck in it and i feel SO bad for them! they've been in it since 1ish and one has his 3 year old with him but his car just can't make it up some hills or the roads he needs are blocked...
makes me thankful to be stuck at home with a sick husband and toddler.

In NE it's not always better either... There was this one weekday when the snow just won't stop coming down, it took DH 4 hours to come home instead of like a 45min max commute!

@NeekieRose: so true! plus it's so common up here for people to have AWD, or at the very least front wheel drive, and if they don't, they stay off the roads (if at all possible).

Yep! Just like what happened here two weeks ago. Hopefully people aren't stuck in their cars for 24 hours like they were here.
We are iced in today. Had freezing rain all day. Should turn to snow tonight. Nasty out!

Yikes! I can't imagine the shutdown like that.
We have that weather up here for months at a time, but we're prepared for it. My sister is on base down in GA and they're shut down today and tomorrow before the long weekend. She is going to have to ask for special permission to be released for a driving pass…hopefully her decades up north will qualify her as winter driver. Haha!

I hope everyone is okay. Looks like us a few weeks ago. This ice sucks big time and I'm ready to get out of my house! I can't live like this, seriously.

Here in KS we always get big snows but two weeks ago we got a lot before it was projected so the roads weren't treated, that with a combination of the mix of ice & snow made the roads terrifying. I can drive in 12" of snow better than what looked like a dusting. I have a lot more sympathy for the south now! Your DOT isn't prepared for this, and normally wouldn't need to be. Be safe!

GAH! It took dh 2.5 hours to get home tonight. INSANE! And he is crazy and wants to GO TO WORK TOMORROW! Sigh.

@Mrs. Lion: he crazy. Surprisingly, my company did the right thing and told everyone to work from home today. I'm shocked. @plantains: it's definitely the lack of equipment. I'm just happy schools were closed this time so kids weren't involved in this mess (other than kids waiting at daycare for parents to get to them).

How much snow did you end up with? My brother said about 3" in wakeforest.

We had about 6 inches and then it got covered with a layer of ice. The snow just started again as hard as yesterday...they are forcasting abother 2-3 inches.

Oh, and dh is at work. He said the roads arent bad sonce we had some rain that made it slushy and the plows were able to clear the main roads pretty well. Hopefully since nobody else is that...uh....brave...he should have the roads to himself.
