@PrincessBaby: I think TB must have shifted to lower quality materials and suppliers because I have had 10 pairs for like 7 years and they are still comfy as ever and hold up well, I just keep resoling/reheeling them. I don't wear them as much because I feel like they are dated and I prefer Ferragamos now but the older TB flats were really comfy.
Still love J Brand, Frye, Fendi and French Connection.
I am disappointed with Michael Kors, I used to really like his bags but all the designs are now rip offs of LV, Celine etc. Also disappointed with Prada, I feel like the quality of the bags has seriously declined over the last few years.

@TravelBee: My only gripe with Steve Madden is that the shoes always need a new heel after one wear.

@plantains: Agree on Michael Kors. I have some shoes and a "rose gold plated" watch and both fell apart after about 3 months of wear. They were not cheap either so blah!

Love: jbrand, 7fam jeans, gap basics, toms, Tory burch wedges and Caroline flats (not any other style), Sam Edelman, lulu lemon, lv, fendi, Burberry, Prada. All because they're great quality and last forever!!

@stiletto_mom: True. Kind of like chocolate chip cookie recipes.
I just wish I could find a dang set of towels that didn't repel water and break the bank. I'm sure they're out there.

@PrincessBaby: Ha! We are opposites! I loooove TB flats, and can walk for hours in them right out of the box! And I also love my Le Crueset pots! Have any of your issues been with their cast iron products? I always feel like the main product lines are better than the ones that companies produce to monetize on their good reputations.
I am also partial to good old Gap-predictable and good pricing. I love love love love Peekaboo Beans kids clothes, New Balance casual runners, Birkenstock sandals, and Patagonia winter coats. I have been very surprised by some Eddie Bauer jeans I bought in the spring, almost by a happy accident!

Here are my random picks for brands, stores, specific products... some baby-related, some fashion-related
Disappointments:
-Honest Company: didn't like the baby wash (too drying) or the diapers (weird crunchy texture when wet) but may give their cleaning products a try
-Aden & Anais. I wanted to love the swaddle blankets. It was one of the first baby items I bought but the bamboo ones fell apart so quickly and the cotton muslin ones were just okay. Mine didn't really get soft like everyone else's.
-Lululemon. I think the brand is way overrated and way $$$ for what you get.
-Tommee-Tippee Travel Bottle warmer. We are on our 4th one because the screw-on cap eventually stops working.
Loves:
-Costco's version of Uggs. I have a pair of real Uggs that I've been waiting to put into use, but I keep delaying it because the ones I got from Costco are still going strong! If you want a pair of Uggs but don't want to spend the $$, try the Costco ones!! I think they were $40.
-Longchamp nylon bags: I've had mine for years and they have held up so well. Perfect for traveling or as a diaper bag.
-Zella: the most perfect leggings ever.
-For specific stores, I really like Nordstrom, Costco and REI because the customer service / return policies are excellent. Amazon is always my go-to for baby products.
I just got some Toms so I'm so glad to hear everyone loves theirs!

@PrincessBaby: hahaha! I'm cracking up reading this thread because Im wearing a JC tracksuit right now. I just cant give it up. I was shocked when I first heard they were going to Kohls too. It's too bad because their Juicy clothes for babies and toddlers are super cute!

@PrincessBaby: @Mrs. Lovejoy: @plantains: @alohaorchid: Have you guys seen the NEW TB Revas? There are no elastic heels. I think they are MUCH more comfortable! I also have always had excellent customer service with them, even on things that weren't purchased directly from TB.
@youboots: @lamariniere: YES to Shun knives and Staub!
Good: Lululemon, JBrand, Baby Gap, Burberry, Kate Spade, Toms, PB/PBK.
Bad: Coobie Bra, Old Navy (quality), Kohl's, Michael Kors

i love:
birkenstocks, i've had so many pairs and i've yet to destroy a pair and they're amazing for my feet and back
modcloth, not a brand, but as a retailer, i've had wonderful experience with their customer service. one top i'd ordered had a tiny hole along a seam, i contacted them and as soon as i said it had a tiny hole, i was told a new one was being sent with rush shipping and that there was no need to send the old one back and they didn't need any pictures of the hole. they couldn't handle that situation any better!
warners, their bras are perfect fit for me and i love their 'no pinch no problem' underwear (i'm super boring and wear full butted underwear most of the time )
ll bean, they are so great about standing behind their products! even years later i was told to bring a backpack back when i mentioned the zipper had broken and they replaced the backpack!
acorn slippers, i wear slippers almost all day, i was going through constantly until i started wearing acorn slippers.
brands that haven't worked out for me as well as i hoped:
coobie, they're so comfy, but my girls are needy, just not enough support to wear in public unless i'm wearing something loose
crate & barrel, i bought a full set of their dishes and all the serving pieces, the glaze on all of them cracked! they said it was because i must have used them in the microwave, i def did not because the dinner plates were so damn big they didn't fit in the microwave so i couldn't have microwaved them even if i wanted to! that was an expensive disappointment.

Jordache jeans available at Walmart. Probably not a hyped product in this decade but has served me well in my line of work.

@PrincessBaby: you know juicy and other high end brands have been sold at a discount at stores like Loehmanns, etc. for a looooong time, right?! Not sure how that's any different then it being sold at Kohls now? God forbid "poor" people devalue the brand by purchasing it at a discount. Sorry but it's down right crazy that you won't wear clothes you liked yesterday because today they're sold at Kohls. Yikes! 'Tis the season.

My go-to place to buy all kinds of things is Target.
I really like all of the kid clothes at Target and I buy 80% of LOs clothes there and probably half my own wardrobe. I'm not too concerned with quality, since like most kiddos, LO outgrows her stuff every 3 months or so and I've never been the type to want to hang on to clothes longer than a year or two.
My other go-to brands are Trader Joe's, Cascadian Farms, Honda, and Sony.
Brands I've been disappointed in: I bought two Kate Spade bags the year before last and..true story, they are just as trashed as any other bag I would have. I've learned that I am not the kind of person who really "takes care of things". I just use them, like I would use a $20 bag from Target. I lay it down on public floors, and I put pens with no caps in it, and half-eaten mum-mums, and dirty pacifiers, and used tissues after wiping my daughter's nose. And I guess I thought a more expensive bag would hold up better to all of that mistreatment, and alas....it isn't so.
Also: Ray-Bans...same reason. Guess more expensive doesn't = indestructible to babies who like to play with sunglasses. Back to $15 wayfarers at Target!

@catomd00: thank you! I guess I'm trash because I love me some Kohls. FWIW my sisters "signature scent" is by Juicy & she's been getting it from JCPenny for YEARS.
Sorry JHo I love ya and all but your favorite brand being sold at Kohls doesn't make sense to stop liking it. It's still the exact same thing!

@MrsTiz: hahaha. You know, I used to love kohl's. I think a lot of their women's line has gone downhill recently, though. I had some shirts from Apt. 9 4 or so years ago that I loved. They've since made them thinner and cheaper and I'm really disappointed. Ever since they let JLo, Daisy, Lauren and Juicy in their doors, they went downhill. I do appreciate their kids section, though!
Every single brand and store I have ever purchased has been at one time or another inconsistent.
To be honest, this thread makes me want to vomit. $230 is a whole lot of money to me and most people I know. I can't imagine spending it on one article of clothing.
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
@catomd00: You can still wear them if you like them! I'm just saying it changed how I felt about it. Sorry I'm not sorry! You can shake your head and act all disgusted, but it changed how I felt about that particular brand. It can be a brand you forever, that's fine with me. I just personally don't want to buy it anymore and won't be standing in line with Kohl's cash waiting to buy it. AND I personally simply don't like Kohls. I just don't. I have never found a single thing there worth the trip, and it's a messy, unorganized store. Love Target all day long, but can't stand Kohls. It's nothing to do with 'Poor." I don't think people are poor that shop at Target OR Kohl's, but I do think JC crashed and burned and got sold to Kohl's and has lost value to me.
@MrsTiz: I think everything we purchase, we assign a certain value to it. I used to assign a high value to JC, and I no longer do. So I don't plan to buy anymore, because it has lost it's value.
It really doesn't matter to me if anyone else does or doesn't agree with that.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@Anagram: target has really upped their game recently. I'm really impressed with some of the clothes I've bought there recently. The pants haven't been great but the sweaters and tops are really nice.
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
@mediagirl: I totally agree with you about $230 being a lot for one item...I personally do invest in certain items that I get a lot of use out of. Shoes are definitely in that category. I am on my feet all day long and work 50 hours a week, and I have to dress pretty nice for work, so I learned my lesson years ago that cheap shoes won't work. So I don't mind investing from time to time because I put a LOT of miles on things. The same thing with items like jeans. I'll buy a couple of really nice ones but wear the crap out of them. But I still get "deal" stuff all the time, like $20 shirts on Jane...I just mix in occasional nice purchases for things I use a lot.
grapefruit / 4418 posts
@PrincessBaby: lol I wouldn't be caught dead in a juicy suit personally. So are you saying if target bought jc instead of kohls you would still wear it and it would hold it's value? What of they just went out of business all together - would you still wear it? I just don't buy it that it's because you don't like the layout of the store. And again still don't understand how it was highly valuable before when being sold at Loehmanns but not at Kohls?
Totally respect that you own it though.
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
@catomd00: I actually do think if I saw something for myself or LO that was Juicy at Target, I would be more inclined to buy it if it was cute. But I definitely wouldn't pay pre-Target prices for it, because it has lost it's value to me. I guess if we're going to dissect it like a 9th grade science project, I really have a negative association with Kohl's just because of my experience with it. I don't like it at all, so the partnership between JC and Kohls is not for me. I find it interesting that you're so interested in the fact that I don't want to buy Juicy. Hope I've satiated your extreme curiosity about my buying preferences.
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
@catomd00: You ETA'd, but just to answer you - Loehmann's had overstocks. Kohl's now owns and manufactures it. There's a difference. And no I haven't worn anything JC in a long time anyway, not since PP with my LO, but I don't plan on wearing them again. I have many other clothing items that I like better.
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@Anagram: Hahaha! I agree! I purposely don't buy expensive bags/sunglasses/shoes etc., because I'm not spending time taking care of them. Well, that and saving the moolah for a winter vacation sounds more appealing.
honeydew / 7589 posts
I don't buy anything because of the brand name or the prestige behind it, so that's a foreign concept to me. I can't understand not buying something you like just because of where it's sold (unless there are ethical considerations with the company).
I love Tea Collection (ethical practices, retains value and holds up after time allowing me to buy used, wear till LO outgrows, and resell to another mama - I love that both for financial reasons and because it's good for the planet!).
I'm also mostly a fan of Gap/Old Navy/Costco. The quality is pretty consistent and I appriciate that they pay their employees a living wage (unlike most clothing retailers).
I love Fossil. I have a couple of items from there that have held up marvelously over time. I think it was definitely worth the investment - my $40 Fossil wallet is in perfect condition after years if use, while my $20 target version fell apart in months.
I'm a huge fan of H&M. I don't care that it's a low end store - I've gotten some fantastic deals there that are holding up! DH got a suit there last year during Black Friday sales and he gets compliments on it all the time. No one would have guessed we paid $60 for it. I have more pride in my deal-finding abilities than in the labels we wear.

Ooooh, also I love Uniqlo and TopShop. I have Topshop jeans I have been wearing since 2004.

I haven't experienced most of these fancy pants brands :), but I've got a few...
I jumped right on the Petunia Pickle Bottom bandwagon and the only thing I like about the boxy backpack is how it looks.
I'm on the fence about lululemon. I do have their yoga pants and a few other pieces, but my gap and h&m yoga pants are my go tos (and they don't pick up as much hair/fuzz).
I really love Peek for kids clothes.
@poundcake: ditto on Costco "Uggs." We call them "fuggs" and I have 4 pairs. They are awesome and hold up really well.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
I really like Kohl's. I'm pretty low maintenance, though. If it's a good price and it looks good on me, it works. I really like the Sonoma brand they sell. $15 for a shirt works for me. I also am very casual at work. I could wear t-shirt and jeans eveyday. One of the perks of working in a lab.
I like Old Navy and Target. Macy's if I have a coupon.
American Eagle for jeans. They fit me the best. They are making high rise versions so my ass isn't showing when I bend over.
I love TOMS, now. Aerosoles, Clark's or Naturilizer for shoes. I'm done buying shoes that hurt my feet after the first wear. Oh, I like New Balance for sneakers.
Really happy with my Kirkland Signature pots and pans that I got at Costco.

@catomd00: I can't speak to what @princessbaby: is thinking, but I know for me sometimes I have a general feeling of ickyness about a store (or brand) based on a previous experience. Perhaps it is a sales associate who made me feel crappy or because I had a hard time returning something or finding something. Maybe it is just as simple as crappy lighting...
If a previously loved brand is going to ally themselves with that store, then I can totally see not loving their stuff anymore, even if I did yesterday.
@PrincessBaby: If you want straight out of the box comfortable shoes, check out AGLs at Nordstrom. They are expensive, but very comfortable (though someone else on HB said they actually thought they were awful... I guess it is just size/shape of your foot). My PCP has them too and she agreed they were great for being on your feet all day long.

@anonysquire: those are the most comfortable flats I've ever owned! They have a more business casual version than the classic croc, totally recommend to anyone on their feet a ton, working 50+ hours! They're amazing!

Love: Worthington from JCPenney, Carter's for LO, Target Up & Up for household goods, Suave for hair care
Disappointed: Coach, agree with Anagram, they show wear just as much as a $20 bag from Target, Honest Co. baby products, got some as a sample and didn't even use all of it

I don't really buy high end brands. I was never interested and now I definitely can't afford it.
I honestly can't think of any specific brands that I have been disappointed with. That said, I do have my go-to favorites.
Target - casual clothes. I have about 5 pairs of their yoga pants that I'm wearing all the time now that I'm pregnant.
Old Navy - Rock Star jeans. I have worn out many pairs. Not great quality, but they are cheap and flattering.
Merrell - boots! I have casual boots and snow boots. Very comfortable and durable. I used to work for a retail store in college.
Crocs - casual shoes. Can't beat comfy flats, I tell ya. I have Plantar Fasciitis so I try to wear shoes in the house all the time.
Trader Joes - because everything is so good and so affordable. I buy nearly all my groceries there.
Lush - everything! Such great quality, wonderful scents, free of weird chemicals. I also used to work there.
Apple - I used to work for Apple Retail also

@PrincessBaby: I would be thrilled if a brand I love became more affordable! Kohl's has lots of great brands. Plus they do a lot for charity.
grapefruit / 4418 posts
@sunny: trust me I get that and get if you dot want to partronize a store you don't like so stop buying a brand that is now sold there. What I don't get is that you would stop wearing something you already own and like because it has lost it's "high end" value because it is now sold at a low end store you don't like. Sorry but the fact she prefaced it with this sounds super snobby makes me believe it wasn't an issue of the former.
All that crap is made in the same factories in china anyways!
