@mediagirl: I didn't have a Kohl's near me, but sought them out when the celeb brands starting coming into play like the ones you mentioned and Vera Wang. I bought one LC jacket that was trendy at the time and that's all that worked. It'It's weird the partnerships didn't elevate the quality.
@plantains: awe man if only I could still wear jeans from 2004! I have a pair of BCBG that my little cousin who gets all my hand me downs has been eyeing for several years. One day, one day I will wear those suckers again, so in my closet they will remain.

@macintosh: I love merrell! I've always had good luck with their footwear but I got a merrell coat this year & it's fantastic!

For yoga/workout clothes I absolutely love prAna- it is pricey but gorgeous and great quality. So much nicer than lulu (and no see-through pants or weirdo founder!)
I am loyal to OPI and Essie nail polish, but most importantly I swear by Seche Vite topcoat. Finding out about that was a real game changer!

@PrincessBaby: I get what you're saying. If a brand you loves changes hands/designers/distributers, the product does change. There have been brands that I loved that this has happened to. The fabrics changed, the style changed and it no longer appealed to me. It happened with Betsey Johnson. I used to love the signature stores. They closed them all and I know the shoe line was bought by Steve Madden. I actually like Steve Madden but don't love the Betsey Johnson line now. It just changed.
But with all designers, fashion changes, trends change and so does the line, there are lots of seasonal collections I like better than others and who knows maybe some old favorites will come back again.
Marketing is what I do, and I agree that some stores are better organized/merchandised than others. I always want to shop at Nordstrom. The displays are fantastic and inspire me to purchase! But I don't love Lord and Taylor. And many times they do have the same items.
Target is a building over than mine, so I shop there anyway - for milk, toilet paper, etc. it's literally my corner store - but again, their marketing is fantastic. It's inviting, it's colorful, they keep the front with bargains and new items so you have to walk through them to get to whatever you were in there to buy.

Am I the only one with almost zero brand loyalty? lol. I just dont get being a snob about it. I just dont care enough. I don't buy expensive stuff because I just cant justify it and I dont like the look of most of it anyway.
I have more brands I hate than ones I love. I wont buy Martha Stewart because she's a shady bitch. I don't buy Chik-Fil-A/Hobby Lobby/etc for political reasons.
I shop a lot at Target, Aldi, Costco, and Carter's... so I guess those are my "go to" brands. lol And Goodwill... does Goodwill count? Probably not.

@rachiecakes: Nice points, ITA!
@Mrs Green Grass: I LOVE Peek! I feel like it's not widely known yet though?
@macintosh: How could I forget Trader Joe's? I definitely feel like TJ's has lived up to its hype consistently. We almost exclusively shop there too.

@loveisstrange: goodwill totally counts
I honestly havent tried like 90% of the brands mentioned here. We don't really buy enough "stuff" for me to have established much brand loyalty anyway. We shop a lot at target, old navy, and kohls for me and dh's clothes, and Los are almost exclusively from children's consignment, and I buy what I think is cute and seems to be in good shape.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@loveisstrange: when I was younger & slimmer I had major brand loyalty. The brands weren't necessarily expensive, but the styles and fit were right up my alley. BCBG, Banana Republic, JCrew, and Forever 21 filled my closet. Now, I shop almost anywhere (just not very adventurous without a good return policy). The only thing tried & true, small or big, are Nine West shoes, which aren't terribly expensive. I think this thread wasn't solely about high dollar name brands. If you shop like that all the time, then those will the brands sited. If you don't, then you won't. Lots of brands at different price points are popular. Or maybe I got the purpose of the thread wrong???

Meh
-most things, I don't hate anything but my body is hard to fit I guess.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: you are right, the post was about all brands not necessarily just high end stuff.
I don't really get why people are jumping down @princessbaby: throat over the fancy brands etc. to each his own, everyone is entitled to buy seemingly expensive or cheap things as they fit and people ascribe different value to things depending on what matters to them. I don't see why they should be made to feel bad about that. Example, I won't buy cheap shoes. I own many pairs and they don't work for me. I have size 11 feet and my toes are super long so over the years, many corns and bunions later I have found out that I need soft supple leather and good support. This means I have to save my pennies to buy Stuart Weitzman and Salvatore. Ferragamo, but it also means I buy far fewer pairs of shoes.

@sunny: @rachiecakes: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @plantains: Thank you guys so much for your sharing your similar perspectives!!! I really appreciate it!
@plantains: This is exactly how I feel. Just exactly. I don't understand why it's okay to jump down my throat either. Why does it bother someone what my buying choices are or are not???? And I REALLY think something is weird if my buying choices bother someone enough to go on the attack about it, or get really worked up over it. This was a fun thread, and got carried away by things getting overthought a bit. There are quite a few people on here that mentioned liking LV bags. I've never splurged on one, so I've never owned one. There is actually one that I am in love with, but since I use our little PBK diaper bag most of the time and don't use a purse during the week because I have a work bag that I put everything in, it just wouldn't make sense for me to spend that much on a bag. And if I did use it, it would look like PP mentioned - it would have crayons, crumbs, and used wet wipes all in it. But I didn't crucify anyone for wanting to spend a couple of thou on a bag. I didn't feel the need to call them out for it. I just read and move on, it's all good info. It's just beyond me that what I do or don't buy could personally affect someone to the point that they need to lash out. I like what I like, as does everyone else. I want to be like, "Hey, don't let it ruin your weekend!"
Fwiw I did get some new things to look into from this thread, which is what I was kind of hoping for...Alternatives to what I've tried previously.

I totally agree with you on Tory burch. The flats are not comfortable and are poorly made. I had one pair and returned them after a week.
I uppababy baby is expensive but their customer service is awesome! That goes a long way with me.
Stores I love: nordstroms, free shipping can't be beat, jcrew factory, always has a sale, old navy, I can always find something for me or LO, target, I love but I never leave there spending less than $100
For me, I will spend money on quality and customer service and free shipping!!
I also agree with you about kohls, something about the layout made it very hard for me to find anything and I think the quality isn't good.
kiwi / 714 posts
I think the idea that you would not want to use products you've purchased from a designer store just because the label was sold is really pretty insulting to people that shop places like kohls. It's certainly not going to ruin my weekend, but honestly I'm a little surprised by how many people agree with you. Not sure who was jumping down your throat here at all.

Schnucks brand cheese
Claussen pickles
Hanes underwear
Sephora brand makeup
Pickles and cheese are the way to my heart, obviously
I also like kohls! Always super affordable, especially if I'm looking for something trendy

@PrincessBaby: I don't think anyone really cares that much about your shopping preferences, I think it's more the way you came across. Yes, you prefaced it by saying you were sounding snobby, and you were right on that front, but it also came across as Kohl's is a terrible place that only the classless and uncouth would ever even think of shopping at. Fair enough if you personally don't want to shop there, but no need to put down those who do shop there - whether that was your intention or not, it is how it came across.
As for me, I have never liked J Crew, Pottery Barn, or Loft. I love H&M, DKNY (sold at Macy's, does that make them less cool?), Zara, and Monsoon. Really though, I have no true brand loyalty - I buy what I like, when I like it, from wherever it may be sold.

@blackbird: mr bird was once sent back to the grocery store for buying store brand pickles instead of claussen I might be obsessed with pickles....

Makeup: urban decay, benefit and marc Jacobs
Victoria's Secret pink everything...no matter that I'm 31
Bath and body works body wash and soap

For clothes, I'll pretty much shop anywhere! I'm a tough body to fit, so whatever works is cool with me.

@Ree723: I did not mean to insult anyone. Again, I don't like kohls. I already stated I love target, just have a negative perception of kohls for multiple reasons. If anyone was offended that I have a negative perception of kohls, then I send my deepest apologies. From my point of view, there are brands that I deeply love, like Pottery Barn. You mentioned you don't like it, but you could have ripped it to pieces or said it was low quality, etc, and even though pretty much everything in my home is from there, I wouldn't have cared about the fact that you have a low opinion of pottery barn. I still like it, so I really don't care if someone else on the internet does not. And I definitely wouldn't be insulted. So I'm surprised that anyone would be offended about kohls. But again, I apologize. I suppose that because I would not get upset if someone didn't like something that I like, then I did not realize that someone else would take something like an opinion on Kohls to heart. That's definitely my oversight.

No like:
- Toms. I truly don't get the hype. They're comfy, but each pair I've bought has fallen apart within a month or so of normal use. Plus they always get so stinky (or maybe it's just me w/the stinky feet problem??).
- Honest Co. Their diapers are OK, but I thought the rest of their stuff really sucked, especially the wipes and cleaning supplies.
Love:
- Almost everything Kirkland brand! It's very rare that I've disliked anything Kirkland I've tried.
- Gap. Their stuff is classic and affordable (so long as you wait for sales).
- Nordstrom. Impeccable customer service.
- Missha cosmetics. I love almost everything I've tried.

So, my brands that I stick to are mainly target brand - lol! I don't really buy much else.. One stop shopping and all that jazz.
Don't crucify me.. Buuuut I'm not a Kohl's fan, sadly. Our store stinks - and I feel like nothing is a great deal. A lot seems up charged actually to then be able to take huge sale prices down. I've gotten some good deals on frames though.

@sorrycharlie: I hate kohls too. This has nothing to do with being cheap, every store I have been in feels like I am wading through a junkyard. I way prefer h&m.
bananas / 9973 posts
@sorrycharlie: @plantains: Yes. I've had the hardest time to ever choose something when I've had to make exchanges in the past. It's very chaotic and unorganized to me and I feel like they mark things up a lot so they can do a % discount. I've left the store more than once, just dizzy and frustrated.

must agree with the crappiness of TB flats. I thought it was cause I have wider feet that they felt so uncomfortable but I'm glad I'm not the only one. For flats I've really become pretty impressed with the ones by Chloe. Bit pricier but sometimes you can catch them for a good price on sale during f&f.
Got me so curious about j brand jeans now. I've been stalking some for awhile. I've been wearing a lot of madewell. But feel pretty lukewarm about them.
I do love zara stuff. From their scarves, to dresses, coats and baby stuff. Everything looks and feels much more expensive than it is.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit how loyal I am to my ugh, but 4 pairs and 4 years in. They've held up well and trust me they get their wear.
I kind of like coach boots too. Sometimes I'll find good deals at Marshalls or tjmaxx
pomelo / 5628 posts
I hate Kohls too. I love Target and Marshall's and TJMaxx, just not Kohls.
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
@anewme: What I like about J Brand is that they fit so well, and have such a clean, flattering look. But they hold their shape perfectly. I also have some Paige that I really like except for the fact that they stretch out and sag here and there. My J Brands just don't do that, and I'm really in love with them. I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one that loves Uggs:) I cashed in some points on zappos gift cards and I think I'm going to get matching gray Bailey button Uggs for Lo and myself. I only have one pair of ugg boots and my house slippers are Uggs, so I may expand my little collection:) Plus I know it sounds lazy but the nice thing about Uggs for LO is that I don't have to round up socks that match what she's wearing, blah blah blah:)
@pinkcupcake: I'm surprised to hear that about Toms...I hope that doesn't happen to mine....I have only had my Toms for a couple of months but I only wear them very occasionally on weekends so they still look brand new....However LO has multiple pairs and they seem to hold up, but I have noticed that the glitter started fading at the toes, but I kind of just thought that was because she is a wild animal

@Mrs Green Grass: @shopaholic: @plantains: @sorrycharlie: Amen! LO and I spent an hour and a half in Target tonight, because it's fun, but for all the reasons mentioned - I hate being in a Kohls.
cantaloupe / 6751 posts
@PrincessBaby: Yeah, maybe it's just my stinky feet IDK - everyone raves about them, but I just don't get it. My first pair got tore up in about a month. I wore them maybe 2 or 3 times a week? My second pair was even worse - after just one day of wearing them, the insole came off and detached from the shoe. So irritated. I got them as a gift awhile back, so I couldn't return or exchange them, either.

I didn't really read all the responses earlier about Juicy being sold at Kohl's, but when it comes to something as subjective as the value of clothing, I would think that *where* it is sold would have a huge impact on its value. Most luxury goods are expensive b/c they're not commonly available, which makes them more sought-after.
I think a lot of times, we also pay for the luxury *environment*. I might be able to get a better deal at Wal-Mart, but I hate, hate, hate going there. I'll gladly pay the extra few bucks I have to pay at Target just b/c I actually enjoy going there.
Anyways. Don't really know where I was going with all that. But I don't blame the OP for giving a thumbs down to a former luxury brand that is now going to be sold at Kohl's.

@Anagram: You sound like me! I don't buy anything expensive because I am SO hard on everything, especially shoes!
