LO is 16 weeks and a bad sleeper - he's never been a sleepy baby even as a newborn, has never fallen asleep in bouncer/baby carrier and rarely falls asleep in carseat/swing. If he had his way he'd sleep on me 24/7 but it is both physically impossible and impractical.
I've been working really hard at the no-cry sleep solution & drowsy/awake and feel pretty good about the progress we've made. I read the CIO posts with interest because while I hope we can avoid it, I also know if things got really bad I wouldn't rule it out.
But one of the biggest sticking points (in theory - not planning on doing it any time soon and hoping we never have to) for me is how do you know if they actually need you?
For example - LO went down easily and was moving around, eyes drifting closed when I left. He appeared to be asleep after 5 minutes but at 15 minutes, started fussing. I let him fuss until it scaled into cries and went it, patted his tummy until he quieted and walked back out. A few minutes later he cried again so I picked him up and HUGE burp came up - he was obviously very uncomfortable.
If I'd let him just cry... I guess it would've come out eventually??
Or do people wait until baby can burp themselves? And if you know they're cutting teeth (how do you ever know for sure?) give them teething remedies? Are other mamas just better at reading baby's cries?
