The best book I read recently was Unbroken. I couldn't put it down! It was so hard to believe that it's a true story!
What about you? I'd love to add some new reads to my kindle...

Best "beach-y" read: The Husband's Secret. It was such a fast read and I really liked the ending.
Best "good" book: The Goldfinch!

@Mrs. Bee: Yeah, that is one of the best books I've ever read!
I guess the best book I've read recently is An Untamed Heart by Roxane Gay, followed by Life Drawing by Robin Black.

@Mrs. Bee: yes!!! All his books are excellent. He's my favorite author. Have you read A Thousand Splendid Suns?

@Mrs. Bee: you're doing a really good job making up for lost time! I'd def add his two other books to your to-read list!

@Mrs. Bee: what's Unbroken? You definitely have to read A Thousand Splendid Suns! And the Mountains Echoed is next on my list. I'm currently reading The Twelfth Tale.

@NurseMommy: it's an unbelievable true story about a delinquent turned olympian turned pow. seriously unbelievably amazing! soon to be a movie directed by angelina jolie so you have to read it because the book is always better than the movie!

@NurseMommy: What is The Twelfth Tale? I know I read a book called The Thirteenth Tale that was amazing.
@Mrs. Bee: I think Unbroken was the last really great book I read, too. That or Gone Girl, can't remember which I read first. I am currently reading The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova, the author who wrote The Historian, and it's excellent so far.

between the devil and the deep blue sea is one I couldn't put down this week.
other 4 or 5 star books this month:
midwives
enclave (razorland #1)
wonder (finally got around to reading it)
two boys kissing
what I thought I knew: a memoir
born of illusion
conversion (only five star book this month)
Wow. I'm either reading really good books this month or I've grown soft in my old age.

I like non-fiction ... My favorite author is Mary Roach. I just finished "Gulp", and it was amazing.

Since being back at work I've finally gotten to really get into some books, so I haven't read much in the past year. The most recent book that I could not put down was The Shining by Stephen King. I am a, recently, big fan of his!

@.twist.: did u watch the movie? Creepy!! We are going to Yosemite this year and it just creeps me out to stay in the hotel there!!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@808love: Is that where they filmed the movie? That would be kinda creepy! I have seen it and was never much of a fan. I watched it recently after the book and I think I can appreciate it a little more, but it never did scare me when I was younger.

@.twist.: wow!! You are very brave. The hallway is the freakiest scene ever. I think the setting was a takeoff on the awhanee hotel and the Yosemite area. We are staying at Yosemite's Wawona but I have flashbacks of the movie ( I don't like scary stuff!) even at the online pics of the sister hotel.

@.twist.: I just read that too! But it was my third time reading it. I think its such a great, creepy book. Before that, I read doctor sleep, which is the sequel to the shining. Its about Danny as an adult and I thought it was excellent as well!

I think we have different taste in books! I didn't care that much for Unbroken. I thought it was okay but it wasn't a super compelling read for me. I felt like she could've shaved 100 pages off to make a more concise story that would've been more interesting.
And my favorite recent book was Where'd You Go Bernadette (which I think I remember you said you didn't care for!).

@SleepyMonkey: AH! This is great to hear, I've been wanting to read it and you're the second person I know, now, who has read it and enjoyed it! thanks!
@808love: haha, Brave & stupid waver on a fine line. I kind of go out of my way to find scary things. I haven't read/watched much that has ever scared me.

@.twist.: I should have known by your avatar that you like scary stuff. It is the scariest one in the hive. says the scaredy cat.

I don't get a chance to read that often but read the Divergent series last weekend and it was pretty good.
