So as some of you know, I've had a pretty uneventful twin pregnancy thusfar (knock on wood!). I've been with a midwife group the whole time, and they assure me that as long as I'm doing ok (I am) and my boys are okay and head down (both are), I can attempt a vaginal delivery.
There's a nurse practitioner in the practice that does not deliver babies. Generally, I really like her and her manner - but every time I've seen her recently, she's pushing me to get a c-section! She has said the following to me during the last 3 times I've seen her:
-You know, you're in the driver's seat with this. If you're uncomfortable, you can ask for a c-section now.
-With a twin pregnancy, there is a risk of cord prolapse, so a c-section would avoid that and any other birth injury you're risking. (*Note - cord prolapse is a risk with ANY birth, not just a twin birth.)
-There's always a good chance that you deliver Twin A vaginally and then need a c/s for Twin B, so would you really want to be recovering both ways?
-Induction puts you at higher risk for c/s, so it may be better off that you just start with one so you're not exhausted and can recover better afterwards.
-I'm just trying to be realistic that this could very well end in a c-section.
Now I understand, really I do. I'm a nurse myself. BUT GIVE ME A CHANCE! There is nothing suggesting that my body or my boys couldn't handle a vaginal delivery - why the push for the c-section from an NP in a midwifery group??
I understand that it's reality that I could very well end up with a c-section and there's nothing wrong with that. I was born via c-section and I turned out just fine :D. I just don't want to electively choose it at this point without a medical reason.
*NOTE - If my boys show any signs of distress, I will not hesitate to have them surgically removed in an instant. This is not about my "birth desires" being put over the safety of my boys. If it isn't safe, I won't do it!*
