I follow a lot of dog feeds on instagram and it really makes me want a dog! But we have a cat and I wouldn't consider getting a dog until the kids were older.
I love big dogs in general like labs, goldens, Bernese Mountain dogs, but they do shed a lot. I have a soft spot for dachshunds because I had the sweetest one growing up.
Which is your favorite breed and why?

I love my golden doodle or a standard poodle. Sweet, smart, and hardly shed (and pure bred poodles don't shed at all).

Bull terrier (think Target dog). They're so silly, quirky, loving and sweet!

We've had several different needs, but my two favorites are lab and German shepherd. The German shepherd definitely sheds too much but he is a great family dog.

I've only ever had poodle mixes--both rescue dogs. One was a poodle/terrier and the other a poodle/shih tzu. The poodle/terrier was a sweet girl, a bit bossy (the terrier in her) but completely adorable. The shih tzu/poodle is so sweet and obedient. I would never want anything bigger (they were/are both around 15lbs). And since they are poodle mixes, we didn't have shedding or allergy issues!!

I love poodle mixes. Golden doodles, Labradoodles, and we have a schnauzer poodle. (A schnoodle)
They like their temperaments, and the fact that they don't shed. I can't deal with shedding

I love bird dogs- spaniels, retrievers, pointers, setters. They are so loyal and smart and very tuned to people. I love them very much. My all time favorites are springer spaniels, Brittany spaniels, and German short-haired pointers. I also love old retrievers.

We've had an Australian Shepherd and Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix. The mix was the craziest, weirdest, smartest dog ever. The Border Collie made her a little neurotic, but she was also a total love bug. Australian Shepherd is my favorite breed because they are intelligent, loyal, hard workers but also have more of an "off switch" than Border Collies. Our Aussie is downright lazy now at 6 years old. He is very people oriented and adapted very well to our babies. He's also very biddable and sooo intelligent which made him easy to train. He's also really sensitive to our emotions and lovesss to cuddle. He's basically the best. You get used to the hair shedding.

We love our lab - she is quirky, smart be incredibly gentle with our daughter.
I also love standard poodles and labradoodles. And goldens.
We had the best dog growing up, and she was a total mutt! She lived until she was 17!

All the flat-faced breeds! We had an English Bulldog growing up, I have a Pug now, and my parents just got a Boston Terrier puppy. I have a theory that they seem more like humans cause their faces are flat.

My favorite "breed" is mutt – but I do rescue dog transport so I obviously have a soft spot for all dogs. I love terriers and “scrappy” looking dogs, dogs that are not perfect and won’t always be seen as traditionally beautiful.
I grew up with Airedales and LOVE them. Low shedding, great with kids, good medium size, very protective of home.
My personal preference are breeds that are low shedding, and I prefer the look of a sleek, short coat vs. big fluffy dogs.

I love our dog but I love any breed that doesn't shed after having my crazy shedding dog for 8+ years! DH has a soft spot for bulldogs & pitbulls.

I have a standard poodle. I've actually had standards my whole life and now that I have a family of my own, I have one. She's great. No shedding, super smart, very sweet (she's getting trained as a therapy dog currently so we can bring her places) and excellent with my daughter who is 15 weeks old.

I love so many different kinds of dogs but we have a Labrador Retriever and he is amazing. He is sweet, gentle and so loving. The only "downside" is that he sheds. A lot. I grew up with with a Lab and just adore their temperaments and size. But I also love Golden Retrievers, Bernese Mountain Dogs, and St. Bernards.

I should also say that in the midst of having poodles growing up, we usually had 2 dogs. We also had an Irish Wolfhound and a Bernese Mountain dog.

We love our min pin. I love how small and cuddly she is. Grooming is minimal, they don't shed much.
But she's a total a-hole. I mean, I'm obsessed with her and she's so sweet. I never worry about her biting anyone or lashing out...But she's kind of a diva. She's loud and doesn't listen well.

I grew up with Old English Sheepdogs. They're soft, cuddly, not so intelligent, and a lot of fun. I love them. My parents had two of them over the course of my childhood. One of them, Lucy, passed away not too long ago. I miss her.

I love mutts that are so mixed, you can't tell what breeds they are from - especially terriers. I always love a good underdog.

I love weimaraners, I've never owned one though. Next would be a golden retriever. My Husband would do anything for a bulldog, we're all over the place!!

Mutts, with German Shepherd in them. I grew up with German Shepherd mixes and have one now. We've had great luck with family dogs.

@Mrs. Bee: Rescue mutts! All our (4) critters are rescues. We have a herding dog mix and a lab/shepherd mix. Love them! I also love Bernese Mountain dogs but I don't think I could even get a non-rescue dog so I'd have to look for a breed rescue 
Also interested in retired greyhounds!

I have been around a couple of breeds but the one breed that I feel head over heels with (based on their look) was a chow chow. It's the first dog that that is all mine. He does shed but not too crazy. I love their independence, cat like personality and their squishy face. Our chow chow is currently 7.5 yrs and while we probably won't get another dog when he's gone, we will almost 100% get another chow chow if we do.

I had an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel growing up, so they're my favorite. She was the most laid-back, affectionate dog ever. DH loves yellow labs and goldens; if we ever get a dog it will be hard to decide!

We have a rescue mutt who is the best. An Aussie/lab mix.
As far as a formal breed we also have a mini Australian Shepard. She is awesome... Playful, so smart, really in tune with us and just wants all the love. I think we will always have a mini.

"Adopt don't shop" has always been my mantra when it comes to getting dogs.
That being said in the past we have looked toward rescues catering to specific breeds. When I was in high school we adopted the sweetest, most loyal Shiba Inu. 2 year old male, he and I bonded very quickly, but we learned in the first few weeks that he "talked" a lot, was a bit of an escape artist, and was not animal friendly. He had a strong prey drive and was not meant to live with other pets. All of these traits are fairly breed common, however i would get another in a heart beat.
Currently we have a lab/hound mix (we think) and i would go that route again as well. Goofy, fun loving, and a couch potato. He's very sweet with kids, but was a handful as an older puppy.

I love German Shepherds because my grandparents had one that was just such a sweet, protective, smart dog - I still miss her!
We live in the city and have two cats that we can leave for a weekend if we need to. I don't see myself having a dog in the future. Unless it's when I'm older and no kids in the house.

I don't have a favorite breed. I just love dogs and can't resist a sweet face! DH adopted our big dog from the pound and he is just so sweet and gentle. He's also a little goofy.
This adorable little guy showed up at DH's work yesterday. He ran around the offices all day getting lots of love and one of his coworkers took him home.
