In the past I've had a fox terrier x chihuahua (he was my granny's dog and we inherited him) and he lived til he was about 17. his mother outlived him to 21 (!!). at the same time we had a boxer, who was just a big adorable dopey pup. he passed away from cancer aged about 5 or 6. Hubby had siberian huskies, but they live at his parent's place due to space and time issues. they're lovely playful dogs but they have a lot of energy to burn and need the space of a big yard to do it in.
I have an outdoor cat at the moment, so a dog isn't really on the cards, but I have always wanted a schnauzer. they just kill me with their little old man beards. Of course, we would call it Colin, like in Spaced... and every morning would stick our heads out the door and yell COOOOOLLIIIIIN!!

My sisters in law have Rhodesian ridgebacks (one rescue/probably mix and another full bred) and I love them! We have connections with a rescue so we would probably do that as I don't personally like buying from a breeder. I also really like our friends Australian Shepard but she's had a ton of health issues!

Cattle dogs, especially Queensland heelers, I have the same neuroses as they do so we are kindred spirits. Definitely not the best kind of dog for small children, but I absolutely love their quirks and loyalty.

We have 2 shelties now and they're wonderful. Dh has had them his whole life and they are his favorite/all he knows. I had a springer spaniel growing up though and would love to have another-- such a sweet, sweet dog

Goldens! And biased because I have the most handsome pup in all the land... but seriously, beautiful gentle giants, great with kids, and just so sweet & clever. Love my Spencer!

@MrsB2012: we have a border collie/lab mix too, and he is just the sweetest man.
I love rescue mutts. More character, often less health problems!

I love Miniature Schnauzers. We have one that we adore. She is just a little spoiled. I took this picture of her snoozing on the couch the other day. She gets bed face, instead of bed head, in the mornings
