Do you have a standard refrigerator with a top freezer, a side by side or a refrigerator with a chest freezer on the bottom?
So many choices!

We have double door refrigerator on top with a pull out freezer on the bottom.

We have a stainless steel side-by-side. Our island is weirdly close to the fridge, so we got the side-by-side for the smaller door swing!

I have a side by side. When we replace our fridge one day I'd love to have a double door fridge on the top and a freezer on the bottom!

Double door fridge on top, pull out freezer bottom, would never have it any other way!

We have a white side by side with an ice/water dispenser on the door. Whirlpool I think? Love it!

@Beebug: @REESE: Is there an easy way to organize the bottom chest or do you have to take out a lot of stuff to get what you need? My freezers tend to be packed with crap!

I haaaaate my fridge >.< It came with the house when we bought it, and is a rental-size white freezer on top. It's so ugly and small :[ We were going to get a new one for xmas, but being pregnant has put that off budget-wise! Hopefully we can get a new one soon and move this one to the garage!

We have a stainless LG with a bottom drawer freezer. It can't make an ice cube, wtf?! Grrr. First world problem, I know, but seriously I didn't know they made ones that couldn't make ice still until we moved to our place. I need ice.
pomegranate / 3521 posts
Mrs.Bird we have a stainless LG too and ours has ice and water on the front door. . That was a MUST for me. I think making ice cubes in trays is a PITA . Alas, I get annoyed that if you open one of the doors the water/ice doesn't continue to pour. It also has far too many buttons and an alarm that scares the dog if you leave it open too long or dont close one of the doors properly. First world problems for sure.

We have a stainless GE fridge, freezer on top, fridge on the bottom. I really want a side by side in the future!!

we have the freezer on the bottom. i hate it! i'd rather have the freezer on top, though i'd love a side by side.... we need the space!

Double-Door stainless steel w/ 2 separate freezer drawers on the bottom.

@autumnlove: We have a chest freezer in our basement, so no longer have to jam ours fridge freezer, thankfully! We try to keep it pretty simple, but yah....it is sort of a pain to get to stuff at times, but for me we use the fridge, more than the freezer, so having fridge up to is worth the trade off! It has three separate storage areas, one is a pull out shelf, so breaks it up a bit, which helps!
The only thing I would look for if I had to buy one again (if we moved), our freezer door stays upright/vertical when pulled out, my parents bottom freezer door pulls back to a 45 degree angle (outward) once fully pulled out, makes accessing things easier!

For those with side by sides......for the fridge side do you ever feel it's not wide enough? When we were looking that's why we decided against! Any big dishes, wide serving platters, etc, wouldn't fit and less shelving re-arrangement/versatility, no? That was our thought anyways, and why we didn't choose that style?

We have a stainless LG with a bottom freezer. I would've liked to buy a french door fridge, but I was buying so much other stuff for the house I just couldn't justify the cost. So we have the single door. In general I like it a lot. I love having all the fridge space easily accessible. And the freezer is pretty easy to use.
After using mine for a while, I now hate my parents' side by side. The fridge is so narrow and stuff on the bottom is hard to see or get out.

We have a side-by-side that we bought when we initially bought the house. It works for now, but I'm looking to upgrade in the future to a french door style fridge. I love the style and handling of this one Samsung fridge, but prefer the openness and in door ice maker of the LG. I'm waiting for one of them to marry the two fridges so I can buy it. Ha!

We have a standard "freezer on top". I'd love a double door fridge with a bottom freezer, though.

Side by side, but my mother has a side by side with a freezer on the bottom...that one is very large and awesome.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
We have a side by side. Not the biggest fan of them.
@Beebug: Yes, I think both sides are too narrow. We went with a SbS in our condo when we had to get a new fridge because it was cheaper and we knew we would move out and rent it out. I would much rather have a fridge with the freezer on the bottom, and the double doors for the fridge. Our new house comes with a SbS, so we will have to live with for a while.

We have this fridge: http://www.lowes.com/pd_201084-46-MFI2670XEM_4294857973%2B4294965144__?productId=3380798&Ns=p_product_avg_rating|1&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_avg_rating%7C1&facetInfo=Maytag
It's stainless, side by side with a freezer on the bottom. The freezer has 2 sections so stuff doesn't get lost in it...but I don't love it. It seems oddly small to me.

@REESE: the beeping!!! Omg! I hate the beeping! My husband and I will start yelling at each other 'shut it! Shut it before it beeps! Quick!' hahaha. The only time it would have been helpful, when DH left the freezer ever so slightly ajar, there was no beeping! And everything half thawed & then got covered in frost I do like how much space we have though, we rent & it's certainly not a tiny apartment or condo sized fridge like you see in some units.

we have an old fashioned fridge that came with the apartment, it has the freezer on top. I do like the older fridges because the new ones are so sensitive and prone to breaking down
pomegranate / 3521 posts
@mrs. bird: hahaha we are living parallel fridge lives. I get anxiety when I have it open for too long (I am a bored eater) because I dont know when it will start beeping! It has really helped my curb my grazing issues. We dont turn the alarm off because I agree that it is occasionally useful.

I went to Home Depot yesterday and I still don't know what I want! I told DH we should just borrow his dad's extra fridge for now!
pomegranate / 3809 posts
Side by side and I HAAAAATE it. I hate that a pizza box doesn't fit, I hate that it's so narrow, I hate the drawers. There is not one thing I like about it.
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
@PurplePumps: That is DH's concern! He wants a French door model with a bottom freezer but they are so expensive!

@autumnlove: I am also really coveting my brother's frecnch door model with bottom freezer, but i have to say the the french doors are such a PITA to open and close (for me, anyway). I have a standard side by side and we have an extra side by side in the garage, so that's how we get by on space!

I have a single door with chest in the bottom and really like it. Our freezer section has two sliding racks with two compartments each which helps keep it organized, but we also have a cheat freezer in our garage for all our bigger items.
pomegranate / 3204 posts
I have a stainless side by side, but would love to have french door model!
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@autumnlove: I love the french door ones, I think they're usually wider too so I dont think we have the space for it.. But I'd be perfectly happy with a regular door with freezer on top or bottom. *Anything* but side by side!

We had the freezer on bottom and fridge on top, which I hated because Ben was 2...and could open the freezer for Popsicles at any time! It was a new maytag and it burnt up within six weeks of us owning the house, now we have a GE side by side and I like it a lot more.

We have a Subzero side by side. I'd much rather have the freezer on the bottom, but I do love my Subzero!

Kitchenaid stainless French door fridge with freezer on the bottom. We really like it.

We have a side-by-side GE Cafe that we bought when the fridge that came with the house had a recall on it. Now I wish we had a french door style with the freezer on the bottom. We have a full-size freezer in the basement so I don't really need a large freezer. They didn't have the french door style one until the last couple of years. I think I would have gotten that. It's nice to have the width space for larger plates/pans.

The sexiness!!!! Samsung French door, bottom freezer & fridge drawer.
@autumnlove: buy mine! You know you want it. The freezer draw actually has a internal shelf then the bottom shelf is 2 compartmented and then there's another shelf that's on the "door".
And there's so many different ways to adjust the shelving in the fridge it's awesome for day to day and parties!
Go to Lowes bc they don't carry it at HD.

We have a cheap, standard refrigerator because it's what the military provides with housing. It doesn't even have an ice maker. I can't wait to have our own!

we have a stainless steel (hate!) freeze at the bottom. I want a vintage fridge when we remodel. If only I had 4k for this!
