I'm thinking ahead to LO's 4th birthday party. She's yet to have a friend party. For her 4th, before her daycare friends leave for pre-k and k, I'm really hoping to throw her a friend party.
Most of these kids, she's been with since she was 8 weeks old!
I'm thinking about the zoo ($$$!!) or some kind of arts & crafts venue. Both are things she LOVES!
Where have you held parties for your LO, outside of your home?

We rented out an indoor playground cafe for DD's 3rd birthday. I may think about an arts centre or gymnastics club for her next birthday.

We've done our house and rented a small party room at our city park where they have a train that goes around the park. We had the party, rode the train and played at the park.

We booked DD1's 4th bday party at an indoor splash pad for Feb, can't wait

@lavender: omgosh that's an awesome idea!!!!! I think we have some sort of indoor water park but they're all 30-40 minutes away. That's a bit far to ask people to drive. 
Otherwise I'm sure the kids would love water play in April especially with our winters!!!

@regberadaisy: do you have a YMCA nearby? Our Y does all sort of birthday parties including pool parties, and it's a reasonable rate.

First bday- Chinese/Korean restaurant
Second- nothing. I was exhausted from the first 
Third - we rented a community hall space

@lavender: that sounds amazing! Both of my LOs have winter birthdays and I'm sad we'll never get to do an outdoor/summer activity birthday!
This year will be my older LO's first friends party (he will be 5!). We rented an indoor play place (very small venue) that has climb on/ride on toys on one side and toys/arts and crafts on the other. The package price includes everything but the cake and seemed like a good deal, especially since I won't have to clean up!

First birthday: we rented out a local cafe.
Third birthday: we rented out a dance studio
For her fourth we will probably do the dance studio (not the same as her 3rd birthday) that she currently attends, their packages include dance & movement. LO's birthday is in April so we can never really do outdoor because it's tricky, one year it was pretty cool and another year it was unseasonably warm.

We're having LO's 3rd bday at a local firehall! She loves fire trucks sound think she'll love it.

@regberadaisy: My friend just threw her 4 year old her first friend party at Michael's! They do a craft and you can bring in some food. She grabbed pizza from Costco (ironically in the same mall) and brought in cupcakes and juice boxes. Said it was perfect because kids that little don't have the attention span for a long party and everything was over in 2 hours and the kids got to go home with a craft.

@gingerbebe: I was looking at that too! I know Jo-Ann's also does it. Was it 2 hours total?
@T-Mom: how old was H when you did the pottery painting? I saw that a local place does that and I think it'll be a lot of fun!

@gingerbebe: do you know how long the craft part was? We were at a play gym party a few weeks ago and the food and cake portion took almost an hour! That included getting all the kids into the party room. 2 hours sounds really tight to me?

@regberadaisy: I think it depends on what kind of craft you pick. They just have someone there to facilitate the craft and you get the room for 2 hours. I would imagine it has to be pretty simple for a 4 year old, so not SUPER time consuming, but if it involved paint it would be messier and take more time. I think the beauty of the 2 hour party is you don't have to serve a meal if you don't want to - just cupcakes and milk boxes or something might be fine at the end of the affair. I just know you get the room rental for 2 hours.

@regberadaisy: for the pottery painting she was turning 5. The painting part took way less time than I thought ... They slapped the paint on in about 20 min and were bouncing around playing with balloons after that. I felt maybe it was a bit young to get the most out of it (but it was still fun. I would have planned for games if I had known it would be like that)

@regberadaisy: There are different pricing levels (they range from $17/child to $40/child) depending on which stuffed animals you want offered and if you want clothes/accessories included.

@lawbee11: I just checked it out on their site! I don't like how there's no private space though, unless you're near that NC store. And there's no opportunities for drinks or snacks. You can book something in the food court? Seems a bit odd...but maybe if the mall has a private room to use?? I don't know if mine does. But definitely a cute idea!
