Junebugs...well 2012 Junebugs anyway. Our LOs are getting ready to boogie down with their bad selves at their first birthday parties! I can't believe how quickly things have come round. How is everyone's planning or lack thereof coming along?

@littlebittyhouse: I am freaking out because this time last year we are all dying to meet our LOs and now they are almost one. Weird.
Glad to hear planning is coming along nicely, are you going fior a specific theme or keeping things more general? I am getting that lest of the invites out today, dress is bought and cake is ordered. Now I need to start ordering supplies for decor. Exciting!

@plantains: very loosely we are doing peter rabbit here are the invites

It's happening!!!!!!! Thanks for creating this, @plantains.
Our planning is moving. I have red tablecloths for our two inside tables and have cut out a sh*t ton of black circles to glue onto them. I have red forks and black knives and red, black and white cardstock to make her banner with.
This weekend, my Mom and I are doing a test run on making her cake and the party cake. We're attempting to bake a cake in a mixing bowl so it's domed.
My spreadsheet is coming along. So far I have lists of attendees (16 + 6 kids so far), a list of food and a list of decorations. I'm not doing a lot of decorating b/c it's not worth it imo. I am just getting things we need and making them our decorations. The one thing I will splurge on will be balloons.
We are doing a cookout at our house. Hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, peppers and onions and side dishes like cole slaw and potato salad, chips and dips.
I'm loving the part I'm in right now - the planning and crafting part. I know on the day of her party I'll be wreck because I'm not great with big groups of people.
What are you doing for your party?
I can't believe that 20 days from today last year, I held my baby girl in my arms for the first time.
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@littlebittyhouse: oh my goodness, how beautiful! I love Peter Rabbit, really like the whimsy of your interpretation.
@mediagirl: you are doing a ladybug theme right? I love the idea of the black circles glued onto red tablecloths, genius. What sort of banner will you be doing? Your party menu sounds delicious, if we had a grill I would definitely go for something like that.
We are doing what I call an 'elegant' bug theme. The colours are coral, antique rose and peach with bits of gold for some glam. So far I have the invitation which I ended up printed on buttercream paper and I have ordered the cake which is a replication of the bug from the invite on tope of a cream coloured cake.
I really need to step my game up with my decor though, I want to make a bunch of tissue garlands, tissue poms etc and I haven't even ordered the tissue yet!!!

@plantains: i LOVE LOVE your invitation & party idea!!
(sorry to crash the june thread! already thinking about my LO's first birthday in october!)
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
I love your invite!! Love the idea, too.
I am making a banner that will have a red scalloped outer circle, a solid white inner circle and the letters will be black. I am going to cut out ladybugs and put them on the ones next to her name. Thank goodness for the Cricut!!!

@mediagirl: you are SO ON TOP of this I am jealous!
@plantains: Suuuper cute invite and theme!
We are doing a cook-out so lots of grill food and assorted salads. I am going to do a dessert table inside.
Decos will be pretty simple - all blue hues - fringy crepe paper streamers, tissue poms, paper lanters, a peter rabbit bunting, a monthly photos display and a *hit ton of clear balloons filled with confetti!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@littlebittyhouse: clear balloons with confetti in them???? One of my favorite things!!!!!!!!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
I'm trying to figure out where to hang the Happy Birthday banner. We don't have any blank walls in our house. We have an archway that leads to the kitchen/family room area, though. I'm considering hanging them there and putting her high chair under them when she eats her cake...
eggplant / 11824 posts
Here's our invite.....getting them printed up today and putting them together by this weekend.
It will be a Peter Rabbit themed party and I need to make basically everything for the party - banners, centerpieces, menu, etc. I think my mom is going to make her cake because I'm not a baker I'll make all the other party food though.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@yoursilverlining: sooo precious! And I still adore her name.

@mediagirl: Thanks! I found the invites on Etsy and was am so in love with them!
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@hellobeeboston: thank you so much, your compliments make me feel so much better about it as the whole thing feels a bit wishy washy in my head. Crash our thread anytime:)
@mediagirl: I am so jealous of your Cricut! I really wanted one during wedding planning but after forking out for a Gocco, DH wouldn't let me get anything else. I really like the idea of hanging the banner in the archway and putting her high chair underneath when she eats her cake.
@yoursilverlining: what a sweet invitation! It ttally matches the name Eleanor.

@yoursilverlining: great minds think alike! I love your invites! Have you seen this banner?! http://www.sweetstamper.com/2011/06/pennant-die.html

We are doing an R theme (copied from @runsyelowlights). The colors are blue and yellow. I sent out the invites yesterday! They are homemade so I cannot post them but they have an R that is made from her footprint. For decorations I will be hanging her weekly photos and maybe getting some paper lanterns. I have so much to do! I love everyones invites and LOs names
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@cheesetomywhine: oooh, I love that idea. Will you also be serbing 'R' foods?
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@cheesetomywhine: R theme! Fun! I was thinking about displaying M's monthly photos, as well. Now to figure out how!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@plantains: Oops. Didn't see this until you mentioned it on my other thread!
Tagging @ree723 too!
@mediagirl: You are so on top of this! I keep reminding myself that's because she's a couple weeks older than mine! Love your theme, and it sounds like it's really coming together.
@plantains: So elegant! I can't wait to see the pics from your party. How many people are you expecting? And this is at your new house, yes?? So cool.
@yoursilverlining: Beautiful. I think I saw you posted this on another thread? Love Peter Rabbit as a theme. You and @littlebittyhouse are in sync. Love it!
@cheesetomywhine: Sounds so cute! I'm a sucker for a baby footprint!
Our theme is "Circus Dogs," and I'm using our own dog to create silhouettes of him doing things like balancing on a ball, standing on his hind legs, walking on a tightrope. I sent out e-invites last week (designed them myself but didn't feel like getting them printed or spending money to mail them), and the responses are trickling in. I'm also in the process of figuring out what we need to buy in terms of supplies, food, etc. My friend is making a little vest and bowtie for LO to wear with a white onesie. I already have a cake topper for the little cake I'm hoping to make him. (Not a baker, so this should be interesting). We're also going to display his monthly photos -- perhaps will use a hole punch and string with twine along the wall or something. Clearly I have more thinking to do!
Am attaching the invite, but please know that there's more wording (location, etc.) that goes with the online invitation, so all details weren't needed in the image itself.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@pregnantbee: such a cute idea!! I love the evite. I sent an e-invite, as well. I put the details in the email but really didn't need much since everyone knows where we live (the nice thing about only inviting close friends)!!
How many people are you all expecting?
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@mediagirl: Thank you Not sure yet, but maybe around 30? Not everyone has RSVPed yet. How about you?
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@pregnantbee: so far we are at 16 adults and 6 kids. The RSVP date is next week, though so we'll see then.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@mediagirl: Sounds manageable. I think I forgot to indicate an RSVP date. Oops!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@pregnantbee: I hope so! The plan is to set food up inside and have the drinks set up in coolers outside. We can seat 14 outside so we're hoping people will mingle outside instead of inside!!
What type of food are you thinking? I'm still trying to figure out how to hang monthly photos, too. I have some mini clothespins I may use with twine? We'll see...

Hi ladies! Wow, it looks as though everyone's party plans are well under way! I'm impressed! So many cute ideas and I can't wait to see the 'after the fact' photos!
I have to admit, I've been feeling rather uninspired lately and haven't really done much on the party planning front. I think I'm just a bit sad at we're so far away and won't have any family or close friends here (courtesy of just moving cross country) to celebrate E's birthday. On the positive front, we'll be inviting a few of DH's colleagues and their wives/children who we've gotten to know and get along with. We'll probably have between 8 - 12 adults and maybe 6 kids under the age of 3.
As I think I mentioned before, we were going to have a rainbow colour theme party but then a very sweet friend gave us some party supplies as a gift (not rainbow themed) so we've decided to scrap a theme and will just go with somewhat cohesive decorations. We also aren't doing invitations as we'll just verbally invite people closer to the time.
We'll just have the party at our place and may or may not head down to the pool area or the beach to let the kids run around and go for a swim. More than likely though, we'll just have a traditional Aussie BBQ with loads of meat, salads, breads and dips, veggies, fruit skewers, and cake - all pretty simple and easy I think.
As for decorations, I'll attach a picture of what we have so far:
* bunting - still needs to be strung
* pink and white striped straws - not sure if we'll try to put together some cute drinking cups with the straws and some ribbon or just put them out on their own
* fruit cups - not sure what we'll put in them yet, still thinking as I really wanted to make fruit skewers
* Bakers twine - maybe to hang up E's monthly photos?
* mini bunting - the smaller flags will spell out happy birthday and the larger flags will have her name, they'll go on top of her cake
* decorative paper - maybe to mount E's monthly photos on?
And then a picture of the cake I'll be trying to make (the white cake on the right); I'll need to do a practice run first!
Anyway, that's all we've got so far but like I said, feeling a little uninspired and not hugely motivated to plan a big party when no family or super close friends are going to be there. Oh yes, i
Her party is going to be the 30th of June, the weekend after her birthday as a work friend has a LO two days younger than E and her party will be on E's birthday weekend.

@plantains: Yes we will! I am excited for it @mediagirl: I am displaying ours on yarn or string with mini clothespins. @Ree723: Love! Simple is always fun since it means less stress. Awesome colors too!
pear / 1699 posts
@plantains - I the color scheme! I can't wait to have a girl so I can use coral for everything! I bet the dress is stunning!
@mediagirl: the cookout idea is awesome! Who doesn't love BBQ?! The ladybug theme is adorable, so many DIY's - I'm jealous of your craftiness
@littlebittyhouse: you have a ton of great ideas! I might just steal the clear balloons with confetti inside!
@yoursilverlining: great theme, so precious! What food are you thinking of serving?
@cheesetomywine: I love the letter theme! I feel overwhelmed with my to-do list too!
@pregnantbee: ha! I think you win for best theme! So original and cute! Love the invitation
@Ree723: aww, it's got to be hard to be so far away - nice that you have made a set of friends to celebrate with you though! Love the cake!!
@babyjmama:
@hlk208:
We're having my family over this Sunday for Joel's Sunday Brunch party. 14 adults 3 kids. We're having quiche, bacon/sausage, muffins, croissants, yogurt/berry/granola parfaits, cheese/walnuts/apples/melon, veg tray, cookies and of course cake. I'm doing primary colors with mostly streamers/balloons for decorations. Nothing too fancy - I think I can handle it...fingers crossed!
Cake smash went well, J wasn't too interested and kept trying to walk away. We finally got him to play for about 5 mins before he got bored again! Oh well, we got some great pics but they're huge. I will resize and post soon. Here is the one I've done, this is how I see my sweet boy all the time

Oh my goodness I can't believe it's almost June!!! It has gone by way too fast I am on my phone so I can't respond to everyone individually but you guys have the cutest themes going on! I am making my own invites so when I get one all done I will post pictures! I am going with a pink and ivory theme and I got her birthday outfit that makes me smile
grapefruit / 4136 posts
Eeek! How did our babies get so big so fast?!?!?! We are doing a monsters theme, nothing too fancy. There will be 15-20 people (including kids). Lunch cookout at our house, pretty simple but should be fun! We are having it the day after his actual bday so his godparents can make it
Like cyndistar I'm on my phone but I.love this thread!!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@mediagirl: Since the party is from 2-4, I was thinking circus snacks like popcorn in vintage-looking paper holders, cotton candy in bags, animal crackers, etc. Will also add fruit and veggies or something. And, of course, cake and drinks.
@Ree723: I'm sorry your family will be far away, but that's great that you'll have some new friends to invite. Love your decorations!
@Mrsjets: Aww, thanks! I love brunch -- great party idea! J is so cute -- those blue eyes and blonde hair, wow!
@cyndistar3: Can't wait to see your invites. Love her dress! She's gorgeous.
pomegranate / 3980 posts
I'm lost guys, they looked a lot better in my head and I don't know how to fix it what would you guys do?
pear / 1699 posts
@cyndistar3: I like them - especially the inside, but they seem like they're missing something on the front - maybe play around with adding sparkles/gemstones, a bow/flower, the initial 'L' in a contrasting color. I'm sorry, I'm not creative at all!
I love the banners!
pomegranate / 3980 posts
And then as an after thought I put this on the inside... too much?
pear / 1699 posts
@cyndistar3: yes, I like it! It was a little flat (is that the right word?) but now it seems more complete, if that makes sense. I'm impressed Also, that dress is amazing!
pear / 1570 posts
@pregnantbee: circus dogs?! i love it! such a great idea!
@Ree723: your supplies are absolutely adorns!
@Mrsjets: those eyes!
@cyndistar3: she looks like a little princess. i like the bow on the outside. i don't think you need the flag on the inside. what about some glitter? i always love me some glam!
