What language did you take in high school?

    EspaƱol! I loved it!!! I even took the Spanish CLEP test for kicks and giggles while in HS.

    I live in TX now so it has been kind of useful. I miss it, and have lost quite a bit. I used be able to be able to conjugate verbs without problems.

    I took Russian, but Russian vocabulary was never my strong suit, and now I've forgotten most of it. I remember enough that I could get by as a tourist if I were to visit Russia again (I could ask where the bathrooms are, how much something costs, what time is it, navigate the subway, etc.) but I wouldn't be able to hold a conversation with someone. Some of the people in my office are from Russia, so I overhear their conversations sometimes and can pick out some words, but not enough to figure out what they're actually talking about.

    I took English and French, both of which were mandatory all the way through elementary and high school.

    Ich habe Deutsch in der schule gerlernt. Fast zwanzig jahre spater, spreche Ich noch kleine Deutcsh.

    I thought I was boarderline fluent in German until I went to Berlin a few years ago and I could speak all day - I just didn't understand a word they said back to me!! It was so fast and full or words I didn't know!!!!

    French. And Latin in junior high. I don't really remember much of either, I'm afraid to say.

    @Cherrybee: wow , I am impressed. I can read and understand exactly what you wrote, but there is no way I can respond with more than: Ja, ich auch!

    And I am sure that's probably incorrect, too!
