My sister's shower is on Saturday and I want to get her the items that she doesn't even know that she needs.

Thanks ladies! Anything else? It doesn't have to be diaper bag related exactly. She's a first time mom and just doesn't really know what she needs. I want to get the "lifesaver" type of items.

This is what I'd put in there (my favorite mom things from the first year that are in my diaper bag whenever we go out)
CJ's butt butter stick (natural, great for skin and they have a bunch of different scents - plus it's no mess)
gas drops
a few premium prefolds (like osocozy) for burp cloths
boogie wipes
changing pad
thermometer
nose sucker
nail clippers
travel baby wash/lotion (i love california baby)
an outfit for baby
bibs
antibacterial gel
lip gloss/hand lotion for mom
nursing pads
baby sunscreen (I love thinkbaby)
sun hat
rattle/teether (DS loved HABA trix and HABA kringelring)
pacifier with clip to attach to shirt -
If she is breast feeding: a super cute breastfeeding cover for sure, and lanolin for her sore nipples. And D-drops, because then she doesn't have to buy them.
Is she cloth diapering or disposable?
An easy-swaddle blanket for sleeping (half off on babysteals today). (OR maybe get her 2, so that one can be in the wash).
Also, some premium baby wash and bum cream, because the natural, expensive stuff is awesome, but new moms often don't have the money to spend on that kind of stuff. Lots of brands are great (Earth Mama Angel Baby, Baby Burts, etc).
Since she's having a summer baby: look into sun-blocking stuff....like a light cover for over the car seat/stroller or a sun cover for over the carrier. If you are in a buggy place, get her a bug net for the stroller.
I can keep going: get her a stretchy wrap carrier, which is AMAZING with newborns. Some people swear by the Moby. I got a Blue Celery and found it super easy and useful.
I have a one month old and these are the things so far that I couldn't live without.

My friend included stool softeners in mine, which made everyone at the shower laugh of course. She also included a bunch of breastfeeding stuff like tea to have more milk, gel pads, etc.

I think Mrs.Tilly's list is great, although I might leave off the sunscreen just because you're not supposed to use it on babies under 6 months, so I wonder if that'd be confusing.
And saline drops.
Maybe some kind of stainless steel water bottle for mom? Nursing is seriously thirst-inducing.
I have a one month old and these are the things so far that I couldn't live without.
