@Arden: thank you! I've also been worried about what I've read about hard soles and development. And now that I've been trying to get her to learn to walk in hard soled shoes for like two months now I'm thinking that soft soles might be the way to go. I was mainly concerned about her walking on hot pavement since it get 100+ here.

@Purpledaisy: It's leather so it's pretty thick, so I think it probably would be fine temperature-wise.

@Purpledaisy: I ordered hers on Zappos in both 6-12 and 12-18. 6-12 fit just fine but I was worried if she has a growth spurt she could easily outgrow them. The 12-18 looked big but when I tried them on, she walked just fine and they stayed on. She's had them for almost 2 months now along with the Minnie style of L&L, those are super cute too
We live in Texas and they don't bother her even though it's 900 degrees outside!
