I live in Michigan so there isn't a whole lot near me. We have this event called Art Prize every fall and it brings in artists from all over the world, and people vote on the best art. That has really put my City on the map. We have the Great Lakes of course nearest to me is 30 minutes away), and Mackinac Island, but that is several hours away.

Dealey Plaza (where JFK got shot). Also there's a barber shop down the street from me that used to be a bank that Bonnie and Clyde robbed.

Hershey Park/Factory. DS was born in Hershey!
We're also really close to Philly (Liberty Bell, Constitution Center, Art Museum--Rocky Steps ;)--etc).

I live in the DC Metro area so we have all the DC museums, monuments, White House, Capitol, etc. SO many things to see!

We're fairly close to Carowinds and a couple hours from Charleston and Myrtle Beach.

Deception Pass. Its very beautiful. Sadly one of the highest ranked places in the US for suicides though.

Wisconsin Dells - Waterpark capital of America (or something like that). Or as I like to call it - avoid I-94 on Fridays and Sundays.

@Goldilocks1107: LOL I love the Dells. I am from MN and I remember that being a highlight as a kid and driving to WI to go to the Dells in the summer. We actually do our yearly family reunion there in the winter because the rates are SO CHEAP because its like a ghost town and a "central" meeting place for most my family.

In my sleepy little town we have a National Historic Site- a fort that was crucial during the battle of 1812. Apparently it's big with re-enactors. Other than that, the great lakes are a bit of a draw. If we cross the border (I live in a border town) to Detroit there are 3 major sports venues (Lions and Tigers and Wings) in the Downtown area.
Oh, I'm also about 30 minutes away from a Provincial Park that is Canada's most southern point

Göta kanal. During the summer, old wooden boats are always passing by. There's also an inn that's been around since the late 1600's and another inn that was featured in an old movie. My town is miniaturized in Legoland.

@sunny: yes. SEAFAIR. I flipping HATE Seafair. Ughhhh...:) all those people, and they shut down one of the bridges for the air show. My husband loves it though, he considers it his favorite "holiday", haha.
Also in Seattle- EMP, the brand new Great Wheel of Seattle, Chihouly Glass Museum...

Haha I don't think it's a "popular tourist attraction" but on the road to my IL's there a Shoe House. Like "There was an old woman who lived in a shoe..." house. So awesome.

I live in the most touristy part of Chicago. I always have to plan my runs avoiding Mich Ave and all of the tourist hot spots
