Is it just the warmth of their head? Or is it if they're acting funny? I've taken M's temp twice in her short life and neither time was she anywhere near feverish.

If any part of her head feels a little warmer than normal I will use my forearm to feel his forehead. If it feels warm, then I will take his temp.

If V's forehead feels warm or she is acting funny. The first time I took her temp she was 21 days old and woke up screaming plus felt warm - she was at 100.4 and ended up in ER due to her age and it was on a Friday at 10pm. We were hospitalized for two days while they checked to make sure it wasn't a bacterial infection. Now whenever I think something is wrong I check right away! One time in the hospital is one more time than I'd like as it was a very scary experience for new parents.

Lethargic behavior is usually a sign for us. My son's super active, when he's laying around and has that look where he's staring off into space is a clue something isn't right.

Any time I suspect they're sick I take a rectal temp. The more used to it they get, the better. Wagon Jr. didn't fight me about it until well after he turned 2.
