Almost exclusively Japanese or Korean when we ate out... my parents preferred to cook. Since I was pretty picky (didn't eat Korean food, couldn't eat spicy food) I was the kid with the Happy Meal in the Korean restaurant.

We loved Ryan's, which was a family steakhouse (with crappy steak), and a big buffet. We also went to the big chains - TGI Fridays, Chilis, Old Country Buffet... that's all I can think of!

No chain places in my hometown (Not even a McDonald's). We ate out a lot, but it was all local taverns and such.

Love Benihana - but it's a special occasion restuarant

We didn't eat out much because it was expensive as a big family... but when we did it was Old Country Buffet, Subway, and Chinese buffets.. on special occasions we went to Buca di Beppo which is a family style Italian restuarant.

Just dim sum and local Chinese restaurants for special occasions.

There wasn't much selection in foods but we went to the Western Sizzling for AGES and this other little buffet place until they went out of business. Then we went to Hometown Buffet, Luby's, and Furr's all the time because kids ate free and my lil brother and I ate a ton so it was worth it for them. For special ocassions, we went to TGIFriday's and Red Lobster. For dim sum, we went to Grand House because a family friend owned it. They were expensive though - boo!

We almost always went to our favorite local Mexican food restaurant, and occasionally Sizzler or Pizza Hut.

It was called "Home" and we ate there every night!

Dad would very occasionally bring KFC home or order food from the little store down the street, but that was it. Restaurants were for super-special occasions because it required too much pain and suffering to drag five kids out to dinner, haha.

My parents loved Ryan's, one of those buffet places. We went there a lot. Also Picadilly was in the mall when I was growing up and when my mom would take us shopping we'd eat there and we'd get SO excited about picking out a dessert- lol:)

@PrincessBaby: Haha! I used to love going to Luby's (a cafeteria like Picadilly) because I got so excited to pick out my color of Jello.

My parents rarely took us to chain restaurants--they always took us to local places, which I really appreciate now. I have never been to Red Lobster, and I didn't go to places like Chili's or Outback Steakhouse until I was in high school and could drive myself.

We ate at Golden Corral quite a bit. Otherwise, it was usually a local pizza place called Sorrento's.

We didn't eat out at restaurants a ton, but when we did, it was often Friendly's!

More often we did takeout and either had Pizza Hut or Chinese food.

We didn’t eat out at chain restaurants growing up for dinner at all unless we were traveling. We used to go to a local Chinese place maybe once a month, and a local Greek place about once a month with friends. We also used to go to a local pizza shop with all sorts of cool pizzas; my mom always got a white pizza with clams. A couple times a year we were allowed to get Little Caesars pizza or KFC; which seemed like such a treat (for such crap!)

ETA: We also used to go to this little local Mexican joint where this old grandma would make you a fresh corn tortilla with butter for $.25. Sadly, that place went out of business.
