So I'm really considering getting maternity wear soon from online. What size were you per pregnancy, and what size were you buying when you were closer to your third trimester?

I think it depends on the brand. I'm fairly petite and found most brands were huge on me even in 3rd tri. Like Motherhood Maternity et al I will def be a XS. Old Navy/Gap I'm usually a S and was as well during pregnancy.

I went up a size in pants at the very beginning of my pregnancy (only because I was barely in the smaller size) but I've stayed the same since then. I am 38 weeks now.

Maternity wear is such a funny thing.
I got a few hand-me-downs from a friend that were XS, they didn't fit, too big.
I went to the store on my own and managed to find some XS that DID fit me. I'm still wearing them and I'm in my third tri.
However, it soooo depends on how you're carrying. I'm not sure if bigger girls have the same sort of issues, but I find maternity shopping insanely frustrating and I would be super hesitant shopping online (although I know a lot of girls do it!).
Good Luck!

It depends on how you wear your clothes. I don't like stuff to be skin tight, so I where I normally wear a M, I bought most things in a L or depending on the cut I would get a M. They're too big now but I know i'll appreciate the extra room when i'm full term and in the heat of the summer.

Pretty much I was a L and am a L. Some places I shop I was an XL and tend to be an XL there too. But then again, I have always carried more weight in my stomcach and maybe if I didn't, I might have been a lower pre-preg size. I've found since most maternity isn't skin tight I can wear M-XL and have borrowed a lot of clothes too that I'm shocked I fit into!

Pre-pregnancy I was a 0 on top and a 4 on bottom and now at 28 weeks I am still fitting into XS maternity clothing. I really wish I had ordered some things in both an XS and a S though because I'm worried about outgrowing a few of my 'staple' work dresses in the butt/hip area soon. But there are some XS tops that still are way too baggy for me to wear like work shirts from Motherhood and some tops from Nordstrom.
It really depends on both the brand and the cut of the clothing to be honest. Shirts almost can't be made small enough for me, but I can only order an XS in a dress if it's a-line - otherwise I'm now a small.
If you're ordering online and unsure I would recommend ordering both your current size and a size up to be safe. If something fits you perfectly now in your current size it's almost guaranteed you will eventually need it in a size up.

I was between a M and a L pre pregnancy and that's what I wear in maternity, though I was usually a 10 and now go back and forth between a 10 and 12 in maternity. I have a lot of stuff from Old Navy and their sizing is so annoying-- maternity or not, I always vary between the sizes. I would recommend ordering from someplace with a good return policy so you can order both sizes and return one.
I'm 32 weeks now and clothes that I bought early on are still fitting pretty well, with a few small exceptions. Like others said, I think mat sizing is more forgiving since everything is stretchy.
I also always gain weight mostly in my stomach, and pregnancy has been no different, so really I think normal pants would almost fit me except the waist. If you tend to gain somewhere else things might fit differently. I buy only a few things at once since I didn't know how I'd be at the end.

I was an 8 prepreg and wore a 6 in maternity clothes. I could wear a small or a medium, but towards the end I was glad I had the mediums.

I second @rattles! I was an XS/S in tops pre pregnancy, but for the last three weeks of my pregnancy, my Small tops from Old Navy, Kohl's and Target have barely covered my belly. I have a few Mediums and those fit much better, but Small was okay for most of my pregnancy.
For pants, I was a 4-6 pre pregnancy and all of my maternity pants are Small or 6.

I fit and just buy what size I normally would in regular clothing. If I wear an xl, then I get the maternity top in xl. For pants, I've been buying in my regular prepregnancy size. I'm a bit rounder and have a substantial chest if that helps.

I'm short, busty, but relatively petite. Before getting pregnant, I wore a 4 in pants/dresses, and a small or medium in tops, depending on the brand.
I've worn XS/S in maternity wear, throughout. I'm 36 weeks now, and have two XS maxi skirts that are *still* too big.

I'm 31 weeks and all my maternity clothes sizes are the same as my pre-pregnancy sizes.
